Emotional skills at teaching
So I have read at Autumn break few books and I will finally wrote about them. First I start this book called:”Emotional skills at teaching - A guide to challenging situations”, (Tunnetaidot opetustyössä - Opas haastaviin tilanteisiin) , written by Lahtinen Anuliisa and Rantanen Jarkko.
The good part at this book were the questions to help discussion with student. Otherwise I didn’t find this book that interesting. I will write down these questions, sentences, quates, because they were pretty much only things what I will take with me to my work. I don’t say his books was bad, no it wasn’t. It was okay, but personally to me these things goes along with common sense. Also I have a had lot of experience the situations, what they talk about in book. Because I am feeling halloween - hype now I want to add some halloween theme -gifs here. :)
To me the important questions, quates and sentences at the book were:
What kind of teacher you should be? --->What kind of teacher you would want to be? ---> What kind of teacher you think you are right this moment?
What good is at this moment?
Remember; just breath.
Move, use your body.
Change the perspective. --> Is this really your lifes most difficult moment?
100% being presence is the key
Tell your feelings.
Wake up curiosity.
Respect your limits.
Make mutual agreements.
Silence - give a space to think.
Power questions: Have you make this the best way you can do it? What did you learn about it? What is the most important to you? What made you say this was the best at ever to you? What at this moment, what is impossible to reach, could make it to possible to reach it. How can/may I help you? If you could give yourself advice, what would it be? What would be good ending of this discustion? What do you want for the most at this situation?
Appreciate others and make it show.
A feeling of security help classmates came along better.
Professionalism and authenticity doens’t close off each others.
Thank you.
Create good connection those who are around you and with whom you work.
The most important part is that you have to know your feelings and be accepted them as they are. When you can calm your inner thought, you will calm students too.
Feed their inner motivation.
Many times just listening calmly helps people. - They may not need advices, only someone who listen.
Oh excuse me! I Almost forget there was that part good, when they spoke that it is really okay to be a teacher and human and have feeling by with that teacher can teach the best way her/his students to be a better human. <3 That really spoke me, because I have felt as a teacher I have to be a perfect role model and not have any negative emotions... and especially I have right to show them in mature way. That way student may learn also be more mature.
Teaching student deal and recognize their feeling, will help them be more stable human-beings.
As teacher we should remember:
Stop.
Search.
Respect/Appreciate.
Negotiate.
Make action/decision.
Thank you for everyone! :)
As your kids are getting ready to finish preschool this educational year and move to primary school, you will be facing the choice to send them to school at age two or allow them to begin in a higher grade when they are three or four.
