merlin recommendations
hello! i've been looking for recommendations but they are kind of specific. i use mostly ao3 but open to using other places like fanfiction.net.
any recommendations with good morgana in which she and merlin work together for arthur and eventually all three work together. preferably no mergana.
any recommendations where it's just knight tomfoolery, canon era or modern, i'm not picky lol
any recommendations where OLD EMRYS happens. just any funny interaction with him? i craveee. those scenes in the show were always so fun.
any super BAMF merlin would be amazing! especially if it's a sort of magic reveal for arthur or other characters.
any gwen and morgana centered fics over 5,000 words since most i've found are so short. them being together, in a relationship.
any fics with aithusa
the crew but as kids, just playing around, arthur gaining responsibility, merlin learning how to use his powers, morgana still being sweet and being good at the sword, maybe gwens first day, and so on.
any one with a scene where arthur is like "magic is evil" and merlin suffers when he says that
any good fics with good banter
s5 merlin and s1 arthur
any help appreciated thank you!
i'll also talk about the fanfics at some point. probably lmao.
he was tired. today had been- far more eventful than he thought it would be. but such was the life of crime he lead. his life and every other person's in this house was constantly in jeopardy. the house was always on high alert for something like what happened today. a break in. even when they thought they'd had all area's covered, there was always a spot that had a kink. they'd fix it, improve security and someone would find a way around that as well. and the cycle would continue, a revolving door of chaos and death. what mattered was they were dead. the men that had forced their way in. the house was back on lock down and hazel was safe and unharmed. it was all emrys could ask for at the end of the day. that his only remaining family was alive, albeit a bit in shock. the cleaners would be there in a hour to mop up the bloody messes, discard the bodies and that would be that. tomorrow would come and it would be like nothing had happened. he limped heavily to his office, locking the door behind him and heading right for a large picture that hung on the wall. he tugged on the corner of the frame, reveling the safe that sat behind it, dialed the code in quickly. all seemed to be in place, nothing taken. it's then that he felt a shift in the room. maybe it was the breeze, or that he could hear the birds a bit louder, but emrys felt the difference instantly. 'hello eris.' he said confidently. he knew it was her. knew she was there and he hadn't even turned to face her. he didn't need to. he knew her ways. knew how she operated. she was the classic thief in the night. never seen or heard. it's why he'd hired her on more than one occasion. paid her well, and not always in money. he turned his head to the side, not really looking over his shoulder but more acknowledging that he knew the woman was there and closing the safe before him. 'was this your doing?' he questions, turning around at last, steel gaze staring her down. 'if you wanted my attention you could have just come over.' ever the cocky bastard.

Emrys’ head was foggy, and he’d come back to Hogwarts to a very frantic Winnie, claiming he’d been gone for the past couple of days. He didn’t remember anything, but made some quick lie up that he’d had to do something for the order to her, and to tell her if anyone asks - he’d gone home to their grandparents. He didn’t want to worry either of his sisters.
His hands were buried deep in his pockets as he roamed the halls, eyes scanning the corridors as his mind wandered. Where had he been? Why couldn’t he remember? Seeing someone approach him, Emrys let out a groan. “Before you ask, I had to go and deal with something at my Grandparents house. Apparently they forgot to mention it to my sisters. Speaking of Winnie and Gwen, can you please tell them not to worry about me?”

one week after that event, hazel’s engagement to julian was announced everywhere. and now, just a week after that, the day of the wedding had arrived. two weeks, the princess had two weeks of sneaking out every night to meet grant, to learn to be able to defend herself. they had almost been caught twice, and each night her feelings for him grew more and more. she was able to learn a few things, but she knew neither of them were happy with how little time they got. not long before the start of the ceremony, emrys made his way up to his sisters room, wanting to make sure she was fairing well enough. he felt like he had barely seen her in the last two weeks, since she was constantly being dragged around for this and that.
he was able to speak to her, try and give her some words of encouragement, that she would be okay, that if he could stop it for her he would. that last one was whispered in her ear as he hugged her, out of ear shot from their mother. emrys had tried to find eden after that but couldn’t find her, assuming she would have been setting up in the ball room for the reception. they had spent nearly every night since the ball sneaking to see each other, mostly to talk but also sharing a few more stolen kisses.
hazel was not fairing well. she had been fine up until today, had been able to push the thoughts from her mind. pretend it wasn’t really happening. but now it was unavoidable. she was about to marry a man she despised. tomorrow she would be leaving the only home she had ever known, leaving behind the man she truly loved and couldn’t even tell him that she did. she tried to let emrys’s words sink in, let them calm her down but didn’t work as well as they both had hoped.
the next hour flew by even faster and before she knew it, the king was walking her down the aisle straight to julian. he looked handsome enough, but she knew better than to believe the pretty lie he painted for everyone else in the room. the prince had a temper, one he hadn’t been afraid to show her one night during the week of their engagement. she had never told grant about it or her mother for that matter, because her mother wouldn’t care. and she didn’t want to worry grant with it. she would be okay, she could handle herself now. at least she hoped.
the ceremony droned on, and the princess could feel her panic rising more and more, hands clasped together before her to try and keep them from shaking. every moment she could steal she was scanning the crowd for her knight. for grant. for him to come and save her from this. ‘your highness?’ came the voice of the priest, and hazel blinked, looking over to him. they were staring at her and it was clear she had been asked a question. ‘do you take prince julian as your lawfully wedded husband?’ the priest asked again. she was about to open her mouth to respond but the words got caught in her throat.
:ONE YEAR LATER :
@intheirabsence
one year. one very long year later, which was saying something considering they were immortal. hazel never stayed too far away though, far enough to be undetected, but closer enough that she could still keep an eye on the home. over time her wounds had healed, her magic able to close them, bring some of her strength back. she never once regretted not taking the power eden had offered her. she would have killed the poor girl if she had, and too much dark had already befallen all four of them that she couldn’t have bared anymore.
she could walk normally, with the occasional stiffness. the scars on her shoulder had dulled to white, though sometimes she had phantom pain. stay among humans long enough and you started to feel like you were one of them. she had a home, a garden she tended to, she kept to herself, all the while trying to find a way to get back to that home, to get back to him.
the only kind thing emrys did in that year was pull grant out of the hellhound form not long after hazel had disappeared into the woods, after eden had shifted and ran off to hell knows where. he may have been a monster, but he was aware of the mental strain that the hunter would go through if he stayed a hound, and well, he still needed the hunter to do his bidding. grant was still confined to the house when he wasn’t needed.
what he wasn’t expecting was to feel as hollow as he did. the god always felt hollow, but this was different, a deeper, wider hole in his black soul. he had grown fond of the girl’s company. of having his sister home and by his side.
but the god of death was still just that. everything he touched, everything he came to know, to like, to love, was burned to ashes at his feet. over the millennia he had tried to change, tried to be different, but he always fell back into his dark ways. emrys spoke only when he needed to now, voice almost foreign to him every time. today was no different. one of his men was talking to him when outside there was howling. cerberus perked up from his corner in the office, growling lowly. emrys stood, walking to the window, the howling and barking growing louder. ‘wolves?’ the other man in the room asked. emrys turned away from the window, moving as quick as he could to the front doors.

hazel was lucky. lucky that hagrid had taken such a liking to her. no other student in her house liked care of magical creatures quite like she did. it was like they all gravitated towards her too, like they knew she could be trusted. it was why she was down at the hippogriff paddock this afternoon. they were one of her favorites and hagrid had asked her to help him feed them, get them more acclimated to humans. hazel was the only student that they bowed back to, and it was a true honor to be trusted like that.
she’d known too, that he’d followed her down here, like he did every once in a while. hazel usually ignored him, would never truly understand what he saw in her, or why he felt the need to try and talk to her. after all these years of brushing him off she thought he’d get the hint. all of gryffindor despised hazel and her twin brother, for more than the obvious reason of the two of them being in slytherin. their parents we’re well known in the wizarding world, and also not for the best reasons. there was no use trying to change people’s minds, so hazel and emrys just played along, acted the parts of being those stuck up, rich pure bloods. even when they hated anything that had to do with class politics like that.
‘you’re really quite terrible at being sneaky you know.’ she said out loud, hand stroking the hippogriffs beak gently as she turned around. ‘you have to bow though, or else you can’t come in here.’ and there was a smirk playing on her lips.
emrys actually quite preferred the weekends he could spend at the castle. it was better than being at home, being bossed around more than he was here. being told that he and hazel would soon need to make a choice in what side they were on. his only solace was hiding out in the library every now and then. to escape his thoughts, the people that called themselves his friends when they were only nice to him, spoke to him, because they feared him.
and yet she was always here too. the muggle born. the hufflepuff that thought herbology was the best subject in school. who was always too cheery for her own good. her presence always irked him, never truly understanding how she could be so happy all the time, but also hating that a bit of his parents’ prejudice was leaking into his mind about her. that she had no right to be here, studying magic wit.
he’d never once been nice to her. she’d been picked on mercilessly every year by his house mates and himself. today would be no different. she was where she always was, furthest table in the back surrounded by books, nose firmly between the pages. he was silent as he moved towards her, quickly pulling the book from her hands to look at it. ‘really o’connor, what in merlin’s name do you find so fascinating about plants?’
@intheirabsence continued from here
always a tease his girl was. but emrys wouldn’t have it any other way. eyeing her up, he leaned back in bed, arms going behind his head and a smug grin on his face. ‘let your workers handle it.’ he said simply. ‘i’ve already put off all my meetings and plans for the day. you do the same. and we can stay here all day. promise.’ and he meant every word. he didn’t want to do anything today other be with her.
