3s and lying

well, i can’t speak for all 3s, but i think that the perceived connection between type 3 and deception is much bigger than it actually is. i’d like to clear up my experience with that.

idk, i think i’m a pretty honest person. i’m not perfect, i lie sometimes, but probably not more than the average person. i actually find lying to be morally repulsive so it’s not something i take for granted. i weigh the consequences of any lie before i tell it, and most of the time it’s just not worth it.

lying does have its uses, i understand ppl who tell white lies when others ask them their honest opinion on an unattractive new outfit or an ugly new hairdo or whatever. (honestly, i usually don’t lie when ppl ask me that. it’s their fault for putting me in this situation)

as for lying to keep up my image, i’m really not a fan. my basis for lying? i try to do it in cases where i think the vast majority of other ppl are doing the same, just so i don’t put myself at a disadvantage. who hasn’t bent the truth in a job interview? who hasn’t pretended they didn’t steal the cookie from the cookie jar like typical 3s, i’m afraid of ppl catching me in most lies. but in the above cases i don’t care much if the truth comes out.

besides that, i don’t lie outright about my achievements or personality traits. i’m not a good actor, so i don’t like pretending to be someone i’m not, because there is a big chance that i will get caught. i don’t want to be put in the situation where i’m bragging about something and then i can’t live up to what i said, absolute pet peeve of mine and very devastating to my image.

instead, i’ve noticed that there are a lot of sides to my personality, so i pick and choose what i show to people based on what they’re like. if i have a particular trait or interest and i think it would help me relate to the person more, you can sure as hell bet i’ll be bringing it up. and if one of my traits conflict, i’ll try to show it less. sure, there are some important things about me that i will never show, but in my eyes keeping them a secret isn’t the same as lying.
