I urge you to please notice when you are happy.
Today I woke up with Frank's arms around me, enjoyed a breakfast that I did not cook myself, and found that the new brand of coffee I bought is a winner. New York decided to throw us a spring bone, so I joined some lovely people in Washington Square Park on my lunch hour, and I treated myself to a California Panini from the deli because I haven't bought lunch in over a week and it is a crime to not eat avacado on such a day. We spent the whole hour eating, and joking, and laughing under some marvelous clouds until I had to go back to work, but it wasn't really work because the library on a warm, sunny Saturday is empty and void of angry patrons who yell at me for policies that are so far above me that I would need a rocket ship to change them. The library on a warm, sunny Saturday allows me time to read at the desk, to chat with my co-workers, to take my breaks and indulge in the blackberry yogurt I keep in the mini-fridge in the back. Best of all, I can do my searches for missing books. This means a whole hour in the stacks where no one speaks to you and you're surrounded by books (add a room of cute dogs and an ice cream station and I'm pretty sure you've got heaven). After work, I met the same lovely people from lunch (with the addition of Eleanor, who is also lovely) for a drink and then accompanied Eleanor for some Artichoke pizza, some lady talk, some dog watching/cooing, and a hug. On the way home, I bought myself the second Starbucks latte of the day and didn't feel the slightest bit guilty, money or calorie-wise.
There are so many miserable, hard, tooth-and-nail days in this city, but every now and then the world gives you that one, and if that isn't nice, I don't know what is.
