The irony is not lost on her; the Duchess of Pacifism married in secret to a General of the Jedi Order. It wasn’t always this hard. When they were younger, and politics were simpler, it was easier to keep their promises to each other, to only talk of what they were, what they had, and how much they loved each other. This war, though--it made everything infinitely more painful.
It was always difficult to walk on Coruscant if he was’t near. This planet was her forced home as a child; the place her father had sent her to when she needed a family and he needed a prize to keep safe. There were no kind eyes here for her, except in this apartment where the whole galaxy seemed to glow a softer, warmer light.
But, the magic didn’t always seem to work.
The deflection stings almost as much as it did when he came in to their apartment injured. It’s not his fault, she tries to tell himself, but it hurts to see him in pain from the very war that she despises so intensely. There’s rage and scolding and an argument forming at the tip of her tongue fighting with the tension behind her eyes as she tries to remain calm for him as her fingers gently wrap a bacta pad around his shoulder. There are so many new scars than before, she thinks, and bites the inside of her cheek so the thought doesn’t pierce too deeply in her chest.
“I’ve always liked a Coruscanti rain,” she hums, tying off the bandage and setting it aside, fingertips slowly ghosting over the skin of his arm before resting over his hand. “I always felt like it was a shield of sorts against things I didn’t want to see me.” She squeezes his hand lightly, her eyes downcast to look at their fingers entwined. Like us.
having 24 hours of work over what was meant to be your 'relax before things get crazy weekend' is not fun, my friends
