sweetnuisancepro's BSG vid Let's Get It Started focuses only on the pilots rather than on the entire ensemble, but it casts a wide net and I think it's a compelling look at the adrenaline-rush mentality of a community of combatants who are all very aware that any day could be their last. (Probably NSFT, some sexually suggestive shots, also guns and explosions). The silliness, machismo, aggression, exhaustion, horniness, breakdowns, fear, euphoria, solidarity. And at the beginning and end that inescapable backbeat of "running, running and running, running and running, running and running..."

After the austerity of the war years, the inauguration of Christian Dior–New York in 1948 returned French glamour to the American market. Following his twice-yearly haute couture presentations in Paris, Christian Dior would immediately travel to New York and draw his American pret-a-porter collection, often featuring strong echoes of the Parisian models. The difference was that the Parisian models were one-of-a-kind designs tailored to the measurements of private clients with all of the work done by hand, thus haute couture—which translates as “high sewing” or “high fashion”; while the New York models were manufactured at production facilities in standard sizes (typically 10-18), thus pret-a-porter—translated as “ready-to-wear.” Though, due to Dior’s personal supervision of the New York designs, the high quality of the American fabrics, and the impeccable sewing and finishing, today it is often difficult to distinguish between the two classes of exclusive dressing from the late-1940s into the 1950s.
