Ever since your game of truth or dare with the others the night before, your mind had been working non-stop. Had these feelings for Malcolm always been there? Had they just been hidden by your friendship with him?
And the one question that seemed to be plaguing you most frequently.
Did he feel the same?
Or was this just some quickly passing crush that would be gone in a weeks time? Part of you hoped so, but another part of you, a curious part, wanted to know what would happen if your feelings were real. And if they were returned.
Jumping slightly as a hand gripped your shoulder, you looked up to see Trip staring at you.
Chuckling he removed his had "Where's your mind at? I was calling you for a good thirty seconds."
Realizing you had been wandering down the hall without paying attention, you chuckled nervously "Sorry, just a bit tired I guess."
"Not too tired I hope? You better show up to the shin-dig tonight."
You smiled and nodded "I will be there"
"Good."
"Did you need something?" You asked, recalling why he had come up to you.
He handed you a PAD "Just for you to check this over."
"Ah, alright, will do."
"Maybe take a nap before the party tonight, ey?" He smiled as he wandered off.
You let out a small sigh, you really needed to get out of your own head. Sighing again, you headed to your room to take a shower. How could you take a nap with your mind so worked up? It's the reason you didn't really sleep in the first place.
---
The ship was still stuck in the storm, and expected to be until the following day. So, after some discussion among the crew, and encouragement from the Captain there was going to be a party tonight. Food, music, dancing. Should be fun. Though, a heavy weight had seemed to find it's way into your chest.
You hadn't seen Malcolm since the previous night except once from a distance. When you saw him, you felt as though your chest was going to explode, so you turned around and avoided him.
You seriously needed to get grip on yourself and figure out your feelings before tonight. Yeah, right.
Malcolm couldn't seem to stop his eyes from wondering around every space he entered, looking for your presence. He had only seen you once earlier in the day walking the opposite way. He had resisted the urge to follow after you, but regretted it when he didn't see you again.
He hoped he would see you tonight at the party. He wanted a moment to be with you, to see just how strong his newfound feelings were.
He wasn't quite sure what he was going to do either way. He had lingering suspicions that maybe you had feelings for him, and he wanted to know for sure. If you did, then perhaps your relationship could become more. And if you didn't, well then, he would hope to remain your friend at least.
Checking the clock, he realized it was about half an hour until the party was going to start. Deciding to go to his room to get ready, he tried to ignore the twisting in his stomach as nervousness filled him.
--- --- ---
As you made your way into the large room, people were mingling and laughing together, as some danced in the center of the room.
The whole party was themed around old Terra traditions. Old music, food, and drinks. A theme you assumed was devised by the Captain and Trip.
You felt a nervous flutter in your chest as you looked around the room, your eyes looking out for one person. As your eyes settled on him, you felt you heart jolt.
Malcolm stood with some others, smiling about something and you felt butterflies shoot through your stomach.
A few days ago you would have gone up to him easily, with no problem. But now, you walked to the other side of the room, unable to even look at him.
You had come to the conclusion that your feelings for Malcolm were real. As much as they seemed to come out of nowhere, you had a feeling they had been simmering for some time.
Finding Hoshi, you stood and talked with her, wondering if you'd get the courage to approach Malcolm soon.
"Hey, look!" Hoshi whispered to you, catching you off guard.
Following her finger, you looked across the room to see Travis dancing with Hannah, grins on both of their faces.
Your thoughts were distracted from Malcolm as you grinned at the sight. It looked like Travis found his courage after all. And, he wouldn't have to eat a whole batch of southern pear salad it seemed.
Malcolm searched the room for you, his eyes scanning fervently. As they finally landed on you, he felt his chest tighten. You had a bright grin on your face that took his breath away, literally.
Following your line of sight, he saw you watching Travis and Hannah. He smiled at the sight as well before he looked back at you.
Feeling a sudden burst of courage, he walked across the room towards you, his eyes never leaving your face.
"Y/n."
Your heart leapt at the sudden familiar voice as your eyes darted to Malcolm, who had appeared by your side.
Swallowing the sudden surprise you smiled "Hey Malcolm"
He stared at you for a moment before finally clearing his throat and finding his words "Would you care to dance?"
Your eyes widened slightly at the question as your heart pounded. "Dance?"
You could feel Hoshi look between the two of you and you wondered if maybe she could feel the tension as well.
He nodded with a smile, though you could see something in his gaze. Nervousness?
"Alright." You said softly, your voice much quieter than you meant.
But Malcolm heard you fine and smiled brightly at you "Great, come on."
As he reached down and slid his hand into yours, you felt your breath hitch. After giving Hoshi a parting glance, you followed him to the center of the room, butterflies rampaged through your stomach as his hand left yours before gently landing on your waist, the other moving to your shoulder.
As the two of you began to slowly dance to the music you felt as though you had nothing to say. You had never been so speechless around Malcolm.
The song that had begun playing was new to you and you felt a nervous flutter. You weren't used to old music, and you were afraid you'd embarrass yourself.
Malcolm, seemingly noticing your hesitation smiled softly as he leaned a little closer "Just follow my lead."
You met his eyes and felt a warmth in your chest, your eyes seemed to stay locked forever, before Malcolm began stepping in rhythm to the song. You followed along, constantly reminding yourself to keep breathing.
"Have we ever danced before?" Malcolm asked after a moment of silence.
After you thought on it for a moment you shook your head, starting to feel your self relax in his presence again. "I don't think so."
"Hmm. That's a shame."
You smiled, repressing a chuckle "Yeah it is. If I had known you were a good dancer I may have looked for an excuse."
He grinned at you "I'm not the best, but with the right partner..." He trailed off softly, and you thought you could hear a subtle hinting tone in his voice.
After he twirled you lightly, he brought you closer than you had been before. Your face felt warm, but you tried to stay calm.
He opened his mouth to speak, but closed it, seemingly second guessing himself.
"What?" You prodded softly.
"I just- was thinking about that game of truth or dare yesterday evening."
Your heart seemed to jolt suddenly as you smiled, laughing softly "Yeah, what about it?"
"Well, it's a shame it ended so early. I never got a chance to ask you a truth."
"Didn't you?"
He shook his head in response "I dared you early on in the game to chug some cider, but that's it."
"Oh yeah. Thanks for that by the way." You said sarcastically earning a laugh. You swallowed, butterflies heavy in your chest, before you spoke again "Well was there something you wanted to ask me?"
He smiled softly, and you could see something shining behind his eyes. You had asked the right question.
"It's not something I thought of during the game, but after."
You rose your brow inquisitively and he chuckle softly before straightened himself up a bit and speaking playfully "Truth or Dare?"
You let out a laugh as you rolled your eyes playfully. The playful part of you wanted to choose dare, but the other part of you, the one that recently discovered your new feelings, wouldn't let you. You had a feeling in your gut, that he felt the same. And that this truth would make it real.
"Truth." You said softly with a smile.
Malcolm seemed to take in a breath before he spoke, his voice soft, only loud enough for you to hear.
"Do you feel the same way about me, as I do about you?"
The over thinker in you wanted to convince you maybe he meant friendship, but you knew that was stupid. He wouldn't ask you that. The only reason he would be asking a question like that, is if this was a confession in itself to you.
'Do you love me as much as I love you?' His inner thoughts spoke, but he reworded it, for fear of the emotion being too strong.
"I think-" you stopped yourself before you started over with a soft nod of your head, your eyes filled with fear, surprise, and joy "Yeah, I do."
Malcolm let out a relieved sigh that seemed to bare a heavy weight he wasn't aware he was holding until it was gone. "Oh thank God."
You couldn't resist the laugh that bubbled out of you, allowing him the relief to laugh as well.
You spoke softly "Can I ask... when did you know?"
Was it as recent as your discovery, did things change for you at the same time?
"Well, I think I always knew, in some way. But, I didn't realize it fully, until last night actually, it was like it suddenly smacked me i-"
"-in the face!" You finished, your face showing your surprise "Me too!"
"Really?"
You nodded fervently and he let out a bewildered laugh. "Wait...so were you actually checking me out when I was doing my pull ups?"
He saw the shock cross your face before you smacked him, making him laugh and mutter out an apology.
"I guess it was good that Trip convinced us to play that stupid game. Who knows how long it would have taken otherwise."
"Shh! Don't say that!" You said, causing him to look around startled.
"What why?"
"You really want Trip to have that over our heads for the rest of our lives?"
Malcolm's eyes widened as the thought "Oh God, definitley not."
You chuckled "So let's maybe keep that under wraps huh?"
He nodded and laughed "Just our little secret then."
--- ---
The rest of the party went well, you and Malcolm only left each other's sides a couple times througout the night. But anytime you'd look to catch his eye, he was often already looking at you.
It wasn't obvious to the others, as far as you could tell, what had happened between the two of you. So it would remain your secret for a while longer.
When most everyone had wondered off to bed, you parted ways with Hoshi and Trip before heading back to your dorm, Malcolm trailing alongside you.
You got to your door a lot faster than you would have preferred, and gave Malcolm a shy yet bright smile.
He grinned at you before he looked around and cleared his throat.
"This may come off a bit fast, and I understand if you say no, but, would you mind if I kissed you goodnight?" His eyes were heavy with nervousness as he asked and you almost reached out and touched his face.
Your heart swelled in your chest as the butterflies returned. You were shocked at the question, but far from displeased by the suggestion.
You smiled, and you were sure you face was flushed as you replied "I wouldn't mind at all."
Smiling, Malcolm slowly inched forward, his lips hesitating just before touching yours, before he kissed you. It was gentle, and only lasted a few seconds, but it was special. You felt a shiver run through your body a you felt a giddiness in your stomach.
When Malcolm pulled away, he kept his face close to yours as he looked into your eyes.
His voice was nearly a whisper when he spoke "I was afraid...that might feel weird, but it was..."
"Perfect?" You asked softly.
He smiled and nodded "Exactly."
You smiled in return as you slowly pulled away from each other. You were sure both of you felt the desire to kiss again, but it was best this night end here, with a perfect ending with a promise for more to come.
"Good night Malcolm" You said after a moment.
He grinned down at you "Goodnight Y/n."

He uses this as every reason to baby his s/o. "Do you want soup? What soup do you want?" "Oh yeah. Let me bundle you up in my nicest furs."
Unusually happy about it, probably because he gets to treat his s/o exactly how he always wants to treat them.
Probably gets sick right after his s/o feels better.
Dr. Leonard McCoy
Rolls his eyes initially. "Yeah right. I'm not going to spoil you because you claim to be sick."
Promptly spoils his s/o the moment he realizes his s/o is actually sick.
He never lets them leave his side unless he needs to take care of another patient. The bonus of dating a doctor.
When he's not taking care of all of their actual healthy requests, Ms. Chapel is.
Mr. Spock
Got the call to visit their private quarters because they don't feel well. Immediately grabs different medicines that he can administer depending on the symptoms.
Quarantines them to their room.
Only visits once or twice a day to make sure they are eating/being taken care of. Cleans himself and area after.
Will take care of his s/o because they sure as hell won't, but it would be illogical to get himself or the rest of the crew sick as well.
Montgomery "Scotty" Scott
Wants to spoil his s/o but he can't risk getting sick because he needs to be healthy to take care of his baby, The Enterprise.
Sneaks alcohol to them in medbay. Since he can't take care of them, that's the best place to bring em, yeah?
Gives in to ONE KISS. He couldn't stand seeing them beg.
Gets sick.
Nyota Uhura
She also doesn't believe her s/o at first, but then numerously apologizes for her initial distrust.
Quarantines them to their room thinking that it would be best, but she goes and visits them all the time anyway.
Feeds them very spiced food to help with clearing their sinuses. Tells them to jump into the shower afterwards.
She gives them forehead and cheek kisses when she has to leave for her shift or when she herself needs to rest.
Pavel Chekov
Is a massive sweetheart and wants to make sure that his s/o is well taken care of.
Took them to medbay right away.
He also tries to snuggle with his s/o in-between when McCoy and Chapel turn away.
He gets sick too due to his constant physical contact
Hikaru Sulu
He brings his s/o to his garden to be surrounded by flowers as they tried to get better
He gets to take care of his loved ones all in one room now.
He has McCoy and Chapel make checks on his s/o when he is busy.
He likes to bring them tea and food everytime he visits.
Christine Chapel
She brings her s/o to medbay right away and doesn't allow Dr. McCoy to bother with them.
She takes great care of them throughout the cycle.
Does a week check in to make sure that they are completely clear.
She then makes sure to keep them on a better diet so that they have less chance to get sick again

As you worked on the shuttle in silence, you could feel Trip's presence behind you like a hovering fly. You had managed to avoid being around him for a while, and it had been a couple months since you two had a full conversation. Annoyance, and hurt sat in your chest anytime you were around him.
He retaliated against your annoyance towards him, with his own, and your previous close friendship turned into...well, whatever the hell it was now.
"Are you almost done with that?" His voice interrupted your thoughts.
You rolled your eyes softly "Why? You wanna check it over to make sure I didn't mess it up?"
Trip let out a soft sigh "Well if you aren't confident with your own work, I'd have no problem doing so."
Closing the panel with a bang, you looked back at him, your eyes saying everything you needed too.
"I was asking because I need more than two hands on this." He said with clear annoyance as he gestured at the busted door panel.
As you began helping him, the two of you sat in silence again. Watching his hands closely, you saw him begin working with an unnecessary wire.
"Stop."
Trip paused "Stop what?"
"Everything you're doing, all of it. That doesn't need work, it's fine, this is the part that's damaged."
"I need to get to this wire to re-direct the power."
"No you don't, look-" reaching over, you pointed out another wire "This one."
Trip let out a sigh "I could do it with this one too."
"Then that would lead to unnecessary work, and you'd risk shutting down the power to-"
"Alright, alright, I'll do it your way just stop."
You felt anger rush through your chest, "Why can you never admit when you are wrong about something?"
Trip looked at you and rose his brow "Why can you never let me do something my way?"
"Why does your way always lead to even more work?"
"It does not."
You rolled your eyes "We've already been here two hours longer than necessary because I've been letting you do things your way."
"My way may be slower than yours, but I get the work done with more efficiency."
As you opened your mouth to speak, a sudden loud beep tore both of your attention away, as you saw the shuttle door quickly clamp close with a loud bang.
"Oh great." You mumbled.
"Nice one." Trip said as he looked over at you.
You opened your mouth in offense "How the hell was that my fault?"
"If you had just let me do what I was doing that wouldn't have happened."
"It could have happened either way, why does it have to be anyone's fault? The shuttle is totaled Trip."
Backing away from the panel, you turned your back on him. He felt guilt ripple through his chest for a moment, realizing you were right.
After attempting to get the shuttle doors to open, and failing you smacked the door lightly.
Realizing you left your communicator with your bag outside, you let out a sigh "Please tell me you have your communicator on you?"
Trip froze as he realized he left his outside with yours. "Uhh."
You let out a sigh "Great."
Walking over to the front of the shuttle, you sat down. Trip watched as you tried to communicate with the Enterprise. As you lowered your head Trip let out a soft breath.
"Comms are down too aren't they?" You nodded your head in silence and he stood up "Of course they are."
"Just another thing we have to fix."
"Should I do it, or would it take too long?"
You repressed an eye roll a you mumbled in annoyance "Out of all the people I had to get stuck in here with, it had to be you?"
"There was a time you'd enjoy being stuck in here with me."
You felt your heart jolt at his comment as your ears burned lightly. Remembering what made you change how you felt about Trip, your heart ached a bit.
Your voice came out soft, almost a whisper. "Yeah. Well not anymore."
Trip felt his chest tighten at your comment as he let out a sigh, shaking his head. Feeling the past frustration and confusion wash over him again.
"Why is that again? You never told me why you suddenly hated me out of nowhere."
You stayed silent as you tried t work the comms, your heart beating faster with his words.
"We used to be pretty close, hell we'd spend half of our time together, then you suddenly acted like I was some-"
"Egotistical, stubborn liar?"
Trip lifted his hands in the air as you spoke "Yeah, like that. What the hell did I do?"
You spun around in your chair, anger clear on your face "You really don't know?"
Trip gestured with his arms "No, Y/n, I don't."
As you spoke, the memory of the overheard conversation replayed in your mind. Trips hurtful words poured from your mouth in a monotone voice.
"How could I like someone who was only brought on the Enterprise because Captain Archer owed a favor to an Admiral? Besides, we have nothing in common."
As you repeated the words Trip had regretted for months, the guilt he felt was multiplied as he felt mortification grip him.
"You heard that?" He mumbled.
"Yeah Trip, I heard that." There was obvious hurt in your voice as you turned away from him again.
Trip stared at you for a moment as he took in a deep breath. "That wasn't what you think, I didn't mean that."
You lowered your head for a moment before you turned back towards him again. "No? Then what was it?"
He stepped forward "Malcolm was ragging on me for having a crush on you. He got me all riled up and I wanted to get him off my back. I said those things as a lie, to make him stop. I don't even know why. I didn't believe those things. I know you're here because you're good at what you do. And the fact that we were so different is something I loved about you."
"So you said those things about me because you were embarrassed he thought you liked me? That's not much better Trip."
"No, no." He let out a frustrated sigh before moving to sit across from you. "I just didn't realize how obvious I was being about my feelings, and I guess I panicked because I didn't want Malcolm to out how I felt about you."
"...So you did have feelings for me?"
"Yeah, I did. I do. But then suddenly you were acting so different, and I just...retaliated, 'cause I thought maybe you found out and didn't feel the same."
"I did."
Trip's raised his brow "You did?"
"I did feel the same. That's why what I overheard you say, hurt so much. I wanted to talk to you about it, ask you why you said those things, but every time I saw you, I felt so embarrassed and hurt, and I just got angry."
You watched as Trip lowered his head. Looking back up at you he shook his head lightly as moved closer to you. Reaching over he took your hands in his.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I said those things, I'm sorry I was too much of a coward to tell Malcolm the truth. That I was head over heels for you. And I'm sorry for blaming you for the door, I know that wasn't your fault."
You smiled softly at him, knowing he was being genuine. Relief washed over you, as did regret. Maybe if you had spoken to him earlier, you wouldn't have felt like this for so long.
You looked down at his hands holding yours. "I'm sorry too, I should have talked to you about it."
He stared at you until you met his eyes. "I miss you." He said softly.
You smiled softly at him "I miss you too."
As your eyes locked, you felt a familiar tension rise up again. You no longer felt anger and hurt as you looked at him, but the familiar affection you thought was unrequited. As his eyes flicked down to your lips, you came to the full realization that it had not been unrequited at all.
Leaning in slowly, Trip stopped just an inch away from your lips, his nose pressing lightly against your own. He hesitated for only a moment before he pressed his lips against yours.
Your eyes shut as you returned the kiss, as it became deeper and more passionate. His hand came up and cupped your face as he pulled you even closer by the waist with his other hand. As your own hands came up to his neck, your breaths became heavy between the moments your lips broke away.
As three loud bangs echoed through the shuttle as someone hit the outside, you and Trip broke away out of alarm.
"You two still alive in there?" You heard Malcolm call out.
"Jesus." Trip muttered as you both took in deep breaths.
Suddenly as the shuttle doors slid open, you opened your mouth in confusion.
As Malcolm peaked in, he smiled. "You two kiss and make up or should I lock you in together for a bit longer?"
"What?" You and Trip said at the same time.
"Well I got tired of all the bickering between you two, so I wanted you to work it out. And I knew you would run away from each other the second you had the chance, so..."
"So...you locked us in here on purpose?" You finished.
He nodded "Yep. Now please tell me if worked."
"Turns out it never would of had to, if you hadn't ragged on me for my feelings in the first place."
Malcolm crossed his arms "Yeah, I kind of had a feeling about that. Sorry...But?"
You and Trip locked eyes for a moment, Trip, repressing a smile looked over at Malcolm "But, we're good now."
Malcolm smiled and nodded "Good. Now, you two actually gonna fix the shuttle before we die of old age?"
Grabbing a nearby rag, as Trip grabbed a wrench, you both chucked them at Malcolm as he ran away with a laugh.
Shaking your head with amusement and annoyance, Trip stood up and walked to the door.
"Little weasel." He mumbled, as he looked back at you. "I guess we do have to finish fixing this thing."
You nodded and stood back up, watching as Trip walked up to you again. He stared at you with a soft smile.
"After we do, how about we get some dinner and talk. I missed talking to you."
You nodded with a smile "That sounds good."
His eyes flicked to your lips briefly before he smiled "Good."

You hummed softly to yourself as you checked over your work, and inspected the rest of the damaged coil. Every sound you made echoed off the wall, each moment of silence seeming loud and suffocating.
Barely noticing this, you continued to work peacefully, until a sudden scraping sound from down a nearby corridor caused you to stop. Your whole body froze for a moment as you listened. The echo of the noise faded. You felt an odd chill climb up your spine as you looked out into the corridor.
"Someone down here?" You called out, and waited.
You could see nothing, and no other noise came. Some of the lights flickered. Suddenly the peaceful atmosphere held an eerie air.
Standing, you decided you needed to figure out what that noise was. It could be another damaged coil, or something else that needed to be fixed.
Walking down the corridor, you kept telling yourself it was nothing, but an odd feeling sat in your chest. Making the hair on your neck stand up with every corner you peaked around.
Finding no sign of any damage, no personnel, and nothing else out of the ordinary, you returned to where you had been working before. You pushed the memory of the sound away, reassuring yourself it was just the sound of some ship-part settling, maybe a coil cooling down, or a pipe releasing pressure. You had almost never worked this deep in the ship before, there were sure to be common noises you were not aware of.
A few moments went by and you began to relax as you almost finished with your work. As you bent down to pick up a tool, your whole body froze as you heard another scraping sound.
This time, it sounded as through something was being dragged down a corridor nearby. You felt a cold chill erupt over your entire body as you sat up slowly, your breath slow, as you stared out in the corridor again. The lights flickered again, and a sudden bang caused your whole body to jump.
Grabbing your com, you spoke in a low voice. "Trip, come in, are you down here in the corridors with me?"
Silence.
"Trip, come in, where are you?"
Silence.
You let out a shaky breath before trying your com again. "T'Pol, come in, this is Y/n, are you there?"
Silence.
What was happening? Your heart began to pound heavily in your chest. Maybe coms didn't work down this deep in the ship. Or maybe something happened.
Another scrape, quick, loud, close.
You reached into your bad, grabbing a large heavy tool as you damned yourself for having not brought your phaser with you.
Walking to the doorway, you peered out and down the nearby corridor. The end of the hall was dark, and you could see the distance flickering of light of a nearby area.
Walking slowly out, and down the corridor, you talked yourself through a plan. You were getting to the lift, and making it up a few levels. You would find Trip, or Malcolm, and tell them something odd was happening down here. That someone, or something was down here with you.
As you headed towards the lift, your heart picked up speed, only a few more corners, almost there. Your whole body froze and seized as you stopped in your tracks. Another loud scraping sound, followed by a thud. It came from the next corridor, between you and the lift.
You swallowed hard, gripping your fist around the tool in your hand. Taking a deep breath you walked softly down the corridor, and stepped around the corner. Your body jolted with anticipation, but faltered as you saw nothing.
"Is someone here?" You asked again, but this time your voice held no bravery in it.
No one responded. If it was one of the crew they would have. If it was a hostile, they surely would have come after you sooner. Maybe it really was just the ship making an odd noise.
You continued to walk down the corridor, the lift was within view. Your breath was shallow but quick as you picked up pace. Just as you walked past another-side corridor, you looked down it, and recoiled as something jumped out, low to the ground as it grabbed you.
You yelled out in alarm, as a guttural sound came from the thing that grabbed you. Loosing your footing, the tool fell out of your hand as you landed on the ground.
Your eyes locked with another's, directly in front of you. There was a moment of silence before the figure began to cackle loudly.
"Trip!" You yelled after you caught your breath.
As he fell back onto his butt, laughing, you threw yourself forward and smacked him again and again, as he held up his hands in defense, still laughing.
"I'm gonna kill you!" You yelled, the adrenaline coursed through you, as relief bubbled to the surface. "How dare you!"
"Alright alright!" He yelled as he grabbed your hands, stopping your assault on him. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"
As you stopped smacking at him, you sat on your knees in front of him, seeing a wide smile on his face as he looked at you, his eyes twinkling.
Unable to hold it back, you let out an incredulous laugh. "I can't believe you did that to me, you scared me half to death."
Trip chuckled, "What did you think I was? Some hostile alien that snuck on the ship? Some alien monster?"
You let out a half amused, half annoyed sigh. "Both and more, I had no idea what to think." You smacked him lightly again on the leg.
"I was gonna come down and get you for dinner, but I thought I might as well have some fun first."
He smiled cheekily at you as you rolled your eyes. "Well you are going to regret that Trip Tucker, 'cause pay back's a bitch." You spoke with a steady voice and a light smile as you stood up.
He let out a laugh as he pulled himself to his feet as well. "Oh yeah? I'm looking forward to it."
You shook your head with a light eye-roll as you picked up the tool. "You're lucky I dropped this and didn't end up hitting you over the head with it."
He took the tool from your hand with a grimace. "Yeah, that would of hurt."
He looked at you again and smiled before wrapping his arm around your waist and pressing a soft kiss to your head. "Come on killer, let's go get some food."
"I don't know, I'm still mad at you. What's stopping me from getting dinner with Sato or Malcolm?"
He pouted a bit, but couldn't hold back a smile. "Because even though I drive you crazy, you still love me."
"Much to my vexation sometimes." You said with a sigh as he laughed, leading you onto the lift. As the lift doors slid shut, you left behind the fear and anxiety, and left with a rush of adrenaline and the desire for revenge.

For being a new crew member on the Enterprise, you had a lot of work thrown at you fairly quickly it seemed. Commander Tucker told you of various things that needed to be upgraded or fixed around the ship, that apparently the other engineers were not available to do. So, you began working on your first day deep within the ship. A fairly secluded area that hardly anyone ventured down to unless there was work needed to be done.
You were now a few days in as Assistant Chief Engineer, and you had barely interacted with anyone on the ship apart from other engineers, First Officer Commander T’Pol, and of course the doctor. Otherwise, you had stayed fairly busy and isolated while working on the ship.
A few hours into your shift, you had gotten quite a bit done. As you made notes of your work as well as other changes you needed to make, you stopped when you heard a distant sound. You looked around and strained your ears, wondering if the noise would come again.
When it did, it only raised your confusion, you could have sworn it sounded like a dog whining. Setting down your pad, you walked out of the room you were in and looked down a short hallway. Hearing quiet padded footsteps coming your way, followed by a short whine, you walked down the hall a bit more. As you did, you stopped as a small beagle rounded the corner. As the dog saw you it stopped for a moment before beginning to wag its tail, letting out a short bark.
Crouching down you smiled at the dog, surprised to be seeing one at all. “Hello there.” You said softly while reaching out your hand.
The dog came trotting towards you, tail wagging rapidly as he licked your hands. You let out a giggle and began to pet him.
“And who are you?” You asked with a chuckle. “I didn’t realize I would have such a cute crew member, It’s quite the distraction honestly.” You said softly as you talked to him.
Suddenly from somewhere on the same level of the ship you heard a sharp whistle. The dog perked his ears up and after giving you a small glance began to run to the source of the noise. ‘Must be the owner.’ You thought to yourself ‘I wonder who it is.’ Standing up, you considered going to find out, but changed your mind and instead turned back and headed to finish your work. Though, with a silent hope you’d see your new friend again.
- - - - -
After a few days passed, you wondered if you would ever see that dog again. But not seeing any sign of him anywhere on the ship, you began to wonder if you had imagined him. ‘Maybe I should ask someone about it.’ You thought to yourself as you continued your work yet again.
This would be the last day you’d be working in this area of the ship. Part of you was happy, as you had been isolated and working alone the entire time. You’d like to see the rest of the ship someday, and meet more of the crew-members.
A couple hours later, you were nearly finished with all your work. Sitting down, you checked over your list of tasks once more. Suddenly, hearing the sound of padded footsteps running around, you spun to look behind you, the idea of your new friend visiting sending a jolt of excitement through you.
Standing and heading towards the door, you suddenly hear a voice calling out “Porthos!”
‘Porthos?' You thought, just as you stepped out into the hall.
As you did, you felt something jump up on you. Looking down you see the familiar furry face of who you now knew as Porthos. You smiled and let out a laugh. Crouching down you began to pet him “Why, hello again.”
“So, you’re who he’s been looking for.”
At the sound of the voice, you looked up, somewhat surprised to see Captain Archer standing in front of you. You stood up at attention, “Captain.” You said with a curt nod.
He smiled at you and took a few steps closer “I don’t think I know you.” He said with curiosity lacing his face.
“Oh, I’m the new Assistant Chief Engineer Y/n L/n Sir.” You said introducing yourself.
He smiled and reached out his hand, his you shook with a nod and smile. “How long have you been on the ship Lieutenant?”
“About a week sir.” You said, trying not to look down at Porthos as he whined and scratched at your leg.
The Captain however did, and smiled at Porthos' apparent desperation for your attention. “You’ve been down here the whole time then?”
You smiled “More or less, but I am almost done with the work down here.”
“Good, good.” He said as he crouched down, petting Porthos, and trying to get a hold of his leash “Porthos got down here by accident a few days ago, and ever since he’s been trying to force his way in. I wasn’t sure why until now.” He said as he looked up at you with an amused smile.
You smiled in return, and tried not to get too lost in the Captain’s eyes. You had seen him from a distance a few times, but never up close. You hated how attractive you found him, it was too distracting. “Yes, I must say I was surprised when he came in, I wasn’t aware there were any animals on board. But, it was a nice surprise.” You said as you smiled at Porthos.
Captain Archer stood back up now “I find he’s good for crew morale.” He joked.
As you laughed along with him, the Captain couldn’t help but feel enamored by you. You were certainly attractive, and kind in voice and demeanor. Plus there was something behind your eyes and smile that made him appreciate why Porthos seemed to take such a liking to you.
Hearing Porthos whine again, Captain Archer looked down to see Porthos spinning a web around your legs with his leash as he excitedly ran around you.
“Oh-” You said as he began to trip you, dragging the leash under one of your feet.
As you began to stumble, the Captain reached out, catching you. “Porthos!” He called out as he tried to get the leash untangled from your legs.
You let out a chuckle as you managed to step out of it finally. As the Captain looked at you, you both realized your faces were very close, and his arms were still wrapped around your waist from when he caught you.
You cleared your throat and pulled away “Thank you Captain.” You said with a shy smile.
“Of course.” He said with a nod as he looked down at Porthos with a stern gaze, as Porthos finally sat down, cocking his head in confusion. He let out a short laugh and shook his head before looking over at you.
“Well, I need to get back on the bridge, but, uh-” He looked down at Porthos and then back at you. “I’d hate to separate such good friends for too long. So, since I haven’t had to chance to get to know my new Assistant Chief Engineer, how about you join me for dinner tonight?”
Your eyes widened in surprise as you cleared your throat a bit “Dinner? Tonight?”
He nodded “Yes. My quarters, eighteen hundred? I insist, and I’m sure Porthos does too.” He said while looking down at him.
Looking down at Porthos he looked over at you and wagged his tail a bit. Unable to stop the smile that spread across your face, you let out a soft chuckle before looking back at the Captain. “I’d be honored Sir.” You nodded.
Captain Archer nodded and smiled one last time at you, his eyes lingering on yours for a moment before he turned away. “Good. See you then Lieutenant L/n.” Turning fully away, he and Porthos left you alone again.
You did not return to your work until the sound of their footsteps disappeared. Letting out a nervous breath, you tried to ignore your rapid heartbeat and the anxiety at the idea of having dinner with the Captain.
‘It’s a formal dinner, he’s just being polite, that’s all.’ You thought to yourself as you got back to work.
But as you thought more about how he looked and smiled at you, you couldn’t help but think to yourself that maybe it was more than just a formal, polite dinner. And as the thought stayed constant in your mind, you found yourself quickening your pace, to make sure you got done well before eighteen hundred hours.
It would only be polite to make sure you were nice and clean before a dinner like that. A totally formal, polite dinner.

Note: I was so excited that Captain Archer came up as the character, I love him and have not been able to write for him yet.
You groaned as you opened your eyes slowly, your vision spinning as you struggled to calm your dizziness. After a moment, your vision steadied and you were able to take a look around your surroundings. The shuttle you had been in was torn nearly in two, you were still in the pilots seat, but lying horizontally, the shuttle turned on it’s side. You managed to unbuckle yourself and fell into the wall with a grunt, standing up in the lopsided shuttle you were immediately aware of the smell of fire and the visible smoke coming from the back of the shuttle.
Staggering out of the shuttle, grabbing an extinguisher as you did so. You looked around the surroundings outside before you put the fire out. After finally managing to put the fires out you tossed the extinguisher onto the ground, you spun around, looking at the area around you.
It was dark, night time, which made you wonder how long you had been unconscious, it was daytime when you made your way onto the planet. You seemed to be at the bottom of a canyon, as you were surrounded by steep cliff walls. Looking up at the alien sky, you couldn’t make out much, only seeing some stars clouded over. As well as the bright red embers of your crashed ship floating up into the sky before disappearing
You thought back on what had happened, remembering that, though the planet was no longer populated, the old weapons defense systems were still intact, but you only learned this once you began to descend to the planet on what was supposed to be a normal scouting mission to see if the planet held any useful resources. The weapons must have been shielding from your scans.
Clambering back into the ship you tried turning on your coms system to contact Enterprise, but only received static. “Damn” you muttered to yourself, wondering how long it would be until the crew would find you. The deep canyon walls must have been clouding your scan signal. You continued working on the consuls, trying to send out a distress signal.
- - -
Back on the ship, Jonathan paced back in forth “Anything?” he asked looking a T’Pol who gave him a shake of the head in response.
“No Captain, there are no life signs detected yet. But we have only covered approximately 55% of the planets surface, and there are many deep canyons covered the surface, if Y/n’s ships crashed into one it will be harder to find them”.
Jonathan sighed as he stared out of the ships window, the darkened planet below him “What about the weapons system? Were you able to locate them?”
“We have located two of the guns, but we believe there to be more. The new scans will be finished momentarily.”
Jonathan sighed as he sat back in his seat, trying to calm himself, but knowing he would not be able to. Not until he knew you were safe and back on the ship.
“Sir, we have finished the weapons scans and located all of the weapons systems on the planet”
“Good. Blast ‘em” he said, giving the command to destroy the canons, so they could descend closer to the planet.

You began to shiver from the cold as you tried to contact Enterprise again, failing when the consul sparked in retaliation. You groaned in frustration before you began looking through storage containers, managing to find a blanket in a storage box as well as a med-kit to patch up the small cuts and gashes on your body from the crash.
Wrapping the blanket around yourself, you looked out of the back of the shuttle again, up at the night sky, your breath coming out as a visible fog. Are they still looking for you? Or have they given up? “No, they wouldn’t” you said to yourself out loud “He wouldn’t”. Your mind wandered to your Captain, your boyfriend. There is no way in hell he’d give up looking for you.
You were surprised suddenly by the sound of gunfire and explosions. Walking out of the shuttle you look up, only seeing distant flashes of blasts. “Oh God” you muttered. You anxiously hoped that was the sound of Enterprise shooting down the weapons system, rather than the weapons shooting them down.
Suddenly getting an idea, you ran back into the shuttle and began looking through your packs. Grabbing your phaser gun, you began to tinker with it, wanting to use it as a sort of flare, you’d have to adjust it’s power to make it brighter.
After a few moments you walked back out of the shuttle, pointing your phaser up, you fired three times, a few seconds in between each shot. Hoping they would see it. Waiting a few moments you fired again, three times.
“Come on guys. See me.” you whispered, your teeth chattering from the cold.
- - -
“All weapons canons have been destroyed, we can begin out descent to the planet.”
“Good, let’s go” Archer replied.
“Captain” Trip began “The planets temperature is plummeting, it’s gettin’ real cold down there.”
Archer looked at him before nodding in understanding “Let’s just hope Y/n’s shuttle is in tact enough to keep them warm.”
“Captain, look!” Hoshi suddenly said, pointing out at the planet they approached.
“What?” Archer said as he looked, seeing nothing.
“I saw three lights coming from the planet surface, they looked like flares.”
“Y/n doesn’t have any flares” Malcolm broke in.
“No, but if they tinker with their phaser they’d be able to make some pretty bright shots.” Trip said.
As they all looked out of the windows, they saw as another light appeared, followed by another, and then a third.
“That’s gotta be Y/n, get us over there.”
- - -
You stared up at the sky hoping that they saw the shots. As you tried to fire again, sparks shot out of your phaser. Dropping it with a hiss as you got burned you sighed in desperation. Your phaser was no good now. Looking around, you thought of maybe climbing the sides of the canyon, but you shut that thought down immediately, there was no way you could make it up there, not at night at least.
You wrapped your blanket around you tighter as it seemed to grow colder, looking up at the sky, there were almost no stars visible, just darkness and silence. Your mind thinking again of the explosions, your gut wrenching at the thought that it was Enterprise being shot at.
Just as you turned to go back into your ship to try your coms again, you stopped when you heard a distant sound similar to a ship. Gazing up at the sky, your heart began to pound as you smiled widely, seeing Enterprise coming into view over the canyon opening.
You could hear static coming over the coms on your ship, making it obvious that they were trying to contact you. Running back in, you tried to communicate with them, but couldn’t get through, but you hoped that they could hear that you were trying, that you were here.
Getting an idea, you left the ship again, and began to climb up onto the top of the turned over ship, almost slipping a few times, and dropped your blanket as you did so. Finally managing to get on top, you stared up at the ship, hoping they could get a clear shot at you with the transporters.
-
“The coms must be down” Hoshi said as all that came through was static instead of your voice.
“Captain, I’m getting a good scan of Y/n, we can beam the back on board.”
“Do it.” Jonathan said as he quickly made his way to the transport room “And send Phlox!”
As he ran into the transporter room, he saw as you began to appear. He ran over to you as soon as you were transported completely. You were hunched slightly, your body shaking and you have visible cuts and gashes on your skin. You smiled at him as he hugged you close, immediately feeling how freezing you were.
Your teeth were still chattering “I was afraid you hadn’t seen the flares.” you said through chattering teeth.
“We saw them, that was smart” he said with a breathy sigh, glad that you were safe.
As Phlox quickly entered, Jonathan pulled away “We need to get you warm quickly, your body temperature is much to low” Phlox said as they began ushering you to the med-bay.
As you sat on the bed with a heated blanket wrapped around you, and a hot drink in your hands, all cuts bandaged and cleaned, you sighed, finally feeling better and even more relieved. Jonathan sitting next to you, hand rubbing up and down your back.
“I was real worried there for a while. I thought I got you killed.”
You could hear the regret in his voice as he spoke to you. You looked at him and smiled while shaking your head “There was no way for you to know. And besides, I’m fine.”
He smiled back at you as you tried to console his guilt, leaning forward and pressing a kiss to your forehead “Yeah, you are.” he closed his eyes as he held you close to him, repeating over in his head “You’re fine.”

Trip growled. He slammed the table in front of him to the side. There was a raging hurricane inside of his chest. The man was just so angry. He slammed his fists into the wall. He couldn’t control his frustration. He had worked so hard. Everyone on the Enterprise had worked so hard to get to this point and here were the Vulcan’s trying to take it away once again. His heart raced. There was fire behind his blue eyes.
Worried, you walked to your shared room to start to pack and to try to find your hot-headed boyfriend. When you walked in, the room looked like a disaster area. You looked around the room in awe. “Trip,” you scolded the man. You watched as he was kicking at one of the drawers that held the both of your uniforms.
Trip turned toward you. His heart sank down to the floor. He shrunk down as if a child caught by his parent doing something bad. He looked down, “I can’t believe we are having to go back home!”
You were dreading this too. Both of you had only recently gotten close since this time in space. Part of you felt nervous about going back. Trip is not the most unattractive guy. In fact, you’d and Malcolm would state otherwise. Which only heightened your sense of self-consciousness. Hoshi had tried comforting you about it earlier, but seeing him rage just brought all the tears up into your eyes.
Trip turned to see you crying. He rushed over to you and knelt down. He wrapped his arms around your waist and pressed his head against your lower torso. He nuzzled you. “Oh, darlin’, I am so sorry you had to see me like this. I know. I shouldn’t be this angry. I just… I am just so angry.”
You shook your head, “No, Trip.” You sniffled back trying to stop your crying in vain, “I’m scared to go back too. I don’t want us to stop.”
Trip looked up at you, “What?” His puppy dog eyes scrunched up in confusion, “Why would we stop?” He shook his head, “I may have failed here, but I have loved you from the start.” He stood up and kissed you gently. He pulled away with a tender smile. “There’s nothing to worry about in that department.” He chuckled as he wiped your tears away. “Now why don’t we try to grab us some shakes to try and cool off and have a date night, yeah? That will make you feel better?”
You smiled and nodded happily feeling a lot better now having that off your chest and to see Trip being his ol’ self trying to make you happy.
