Captain’s log, stardate 202005.07... 13/365 Of all the orchestral main theme used for various Star Trek feature films, the First Contact beginning credit theme would be my favorite with the beginning credit theme from The Motion Picture (both composed by the late Jerry Goldsmith), later used as the main theme for Star Trek: The Next Generation, being second. First Contact theme played over and over in my head, until one day, I imagined a truncated version over the course of several weeks to a month or perhaps more, When I decided to sit and edit a version I heard in my head on Pro Tools, I wanted to listen to what it would’ve really sound like in person had they used this theme for a hypothetical Star Trek TV show like the way they used The Motion Picture theme for The Next Generation.
For the truncated version, I used Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as the backdrop complete with sound effects, because the timing of that video worked better than any of the other Star Trek intros I tried using at the time. Long ago, I remember someone commented on YouTube that this theme brings a glimmer of hope, and upon listening to it since the comment,I wholeheartedly believe it.
