the fox and the dragon | Karen and Lance
Lance looked up at goldenrod department store. Arceus, he had such a love/hate relationship with this place. His wallet actually ached at the sight of it. But today, he was to restrain himself. There was a greater cause for his being here than the usual binge spending. Look for the girl with grey-blue hair, his source had told him. She’s well worth it- exceptional. And she has an eye for shiny things. And so, a shiny thing he had brought.
The crest of Blackthorn’s oldest clan- Lance’s clan- was a priceless relic. Beautifully intertwined precious metal dragons around a fat ruby at the center that gleamed like sunlight. It made him quite uneasy bringing the very symbol of his bloodline and displaying it so carelessly on his side, but his source had told him there was no fooling this Karen with a fake. She had sharp eyes, and a sharp wit, so he was told. And she was adept with pokemon. Well Karen, here I am. Dangling my family's most valuable heirloom like a fool while pretending to window shop. Ball is in your court.
He had no idea why he was so interested in this woman. There were plenty of strong trainers who he could recruit to elite four status. Many fabulous candidates had been nominated. They were all pretty much bred to become top trainers. Good families, pedigree pokemon. Why he wanted someone so obviously difficult to attain was beyond him. But something in him was pushing to not choose the obvious cookie cutter, gifted, well sponsored trainer who would use the position for self furthering, or bragging rights. This would be more of a challenge, but it felt right in his gut. He had never met her, but he wanted to help her. Does that make me pretentious, I wonder... do I really consider myself above this person? I don't think that's the case.
No, he didn't think himself better than her just because of their difference in lifestyles. But he did hope that he could direct her to use her power for her own good, as well as complete the foursome that was still missing a slot on the Indigo Plateau. Maybe this won't be as hard as I thought, he thought hopefully. Maybe I'll make a good first impression, and I won't have even needed to bring this along. I should just have a little faith. I've been waiting for a while now, though... I wonder if my source was accurate in where she would be. He patted the crest to reassure himself. Just gotta have a little faith.
