richard looked down at his violin case and back up at the woman. he has never met her before, but that was no reason to be Rude. all she asked was how long he had been playing violin and considering he was the one walking back towards his home with it, well, it was not as if she was out of line to ask him. she seemed nonthreatening at best and at worst---completely genuine. “i have been playing violin for...quite some time. i enjoy it.”

dion, when he heard from nor that one of her children had lived thorughout the centuries felt happy for his sister that she had this person she thought lost back, worried because there were many feelings that such a thing came with (the thing: immortality, the Big Thing), also more worry because what could or would happen as a result and also---excited. he was excited to meet a new addition because well, he always valued family and connections like that. it was no secret. any person who met him and got to know him knew family was important to him. as important as his love of theatre, no maybe, less important than that. even if theatre was one of the (many) things he enjoyed about being immortal. 

still, he knew he had to play it somewhat safe. he didn’t think he would have trouble getting along with his niece, especially after finding out he has frequented her club a few times and held an event there as well as gave it good publicity. however, that was all professional. this---this hangout he organized at his two-floor apartment was personal. the more...personal side of things made him a tad nervous. dion, though, was someone who could work through his nerves nonetheless. he would just have to dial it all back a bit.

as he opened the door, he smiled brightly at theresia severen. “welcome to my not-so humble abode, theresia.” he opened the door widely, allowing her room to enter. “i wasn’t sure how you felt about dogs, so cerberus for now is upstairs. he’s very friendly, could even be described as too friendly.” maybe like his owner, but eh.

YES, Dimitri knew exactly what this looked like.

HE wasn’t breaking into someone’s house though. Or. Well. He wasn’t breaking into someone’s house with malicious intent. It was completely innocent. 

ALL that was happening was that Dimitri had snuck into the woods from where his mother was hosting a large barbecue. Honestly, he hadn’t even wanted to attend, but Drusilla insisted. Even more shrill than usual. He’d made it longer than he expected to, but when she began a speech about how proud & grateful she was for Marcus ( who wasn’t even there because he was late  ) Dimitri’s will started to crack. It was shattered when, during his mother’s lovely speech, Valeria texted him saying she was on her way. 

DIMITRI could barely deal with his mother on her own, let alone with Valeria present. So the best choice seemed to be hide.

NOW, he couldn’t just wander around in the woods so close to the event without someone finding him eventually && he certainly wasn’t thrilled by the prospect of a hike. So, when he spotted the seemingly unoccupied cabin it seemed like the perfect compromise. He’d just pick the lock, wait inside for a few hours until the barbecue was over &&& deal with his mother’s complaints the next time he saw her. No harm done. 

WHICH meant all he had to do now was explain his utterly pure intentions to Theresia Severin. Who just so happened to catch him trying to break into her families cabin. Not so bad, right? Just tell the truth: That he, Dimitri Irvine, a known troublemaker around town was simply trying to find a place where he could escape from his mother & girlfriend. 

FANTASTIC, Dimitri, what a great situation you’ve gotten yourself into. 

“ I’m not breaking in ! Or - well I am . But I wasn’t going to break anything , or steal anything . I just wanted to hide for a few hours . Not from the police , I’m not a fugitive or anything , just from Valeria && my mother . That’s all . Speaking of them , please don’t shout or anything ? They might hear ? “

OH, she was definitely going to call the police.

It was almost like a small miracle, but she had managed to convince Auburn to give her a chance. But she had agreed under conditions. One of which was that Joné would go to this mystery place here to get a super hero suit and mask. 

And the redhead had been so damn adamant about it that she had no choice but to comply if she really wanted to do this. Personally, she didn’t think she’d need some weird looking suit to do good. She always wanted to be flashy in whatever she did. She did not want to wear anything that was purely functional and looked the part. 

There was also her abilities to consider and how she used them. What kind of suit would that be?

But she rang and waited at the door to be let in anyway despite her reservations because that’s what it apparently took to become a hero. Wearing weird shit whether you needed it or not.

“ ..... ... knock knock ~ - man, i can’t believe i’m doin’ this. “ she whispered to herself, resigned.

SOLACE was impressively hard to find in Ianthe, which Emery had discovered fairly quickly, but it didn’t fail to vex her every time it proved true. One of the very few places she ever managed to relax was the capitals library. It was vast enough & few enough people occupied it that she could carve out a small space to tuck herself into as she read. 

THE moments of peace, Emery was sure, were what kept her sane. Ianthe had this oppressive weight, it covered her skin in an itch she could never satisfy, that left her feeling raw && restless. Escaping from the eyes that followed her ( always, always, always stalking her, assessing, judging, contemplating, threatening, accusing ) whenever she was in court gave her time to find some sort of perchance. 

( the library was the only place she’d open letters from her siblings, the messages as much of a secret as a prisoner like her could have ) 

HERE in the space she’d found, nestled away in a far corner next to texts so rarely used, it wasn’t often when anyone would venture too close. Aside from the occasional scholar or library worker, she was relatively safe. So the annoyance that spread quickly through her veins when she heard someone approaching wasn’t entirely unjustified.  

SPARING only a brief look to see who it was standing before her, Emery let her eyes fall back to the pages in her lap. Though it might be more effort than it was worth to keep reading without addressing the crown princess. Her tone was devoid of any inflection when she spoke, the feelings behind them left up to interpretation.

          though not normally a social being (her best friend could attest to that statement, for sure.) april still liked being around people at times. it was loneliness she truly despised. and she also needed some sort of inspiration, so, she found herself at a local club, drinking a cosmo and enjoying watching mortals. she laughed when she saw one woman stomp on a man’s foot and turned to the person to her left.

           “--did you see that guy get wiped out?” only when the words were in between the two of them did april notice just who it was there. she frowned, “wait--i know you!”

o1. Speakeasy Crow Club. SPEAKEASY CROW CLUB. The Dregs being a gang of rumrunners and enforcers that used to be small time, but then this kid named Kaz Brekker got his hands into Per Haskell’s operation and made it better.

o2. Okay but the Emerald Palace being a rival speakeasy that the Dregs (and especially Kaz) are trying to steal business from. Because Kaz hates the Dime Lions (and Pekka Rollins screwed him and his brother over when they came to town, leading to Jordie’s death) and it’s personal af.

o3. Bartender!Kaz tho. Using that skill at card tricks to mix drinks smoothly and beautifully. Some people (usually young women but sometimes young men coughcoughJESPERcoughcough) stand around to watch him pour drinks. He gets asked out a lot but never accepts because vengeance takes all his time.

o4. That and he’s lowkey infatuated (coughcoughinlovewithcoughcough) this girl he found at one of his competitor’s places, and lured over to the Dregs to spy for him. She’s a trained acrobat, and he’s keeping an eye out for news of her family as she pays off what it cost to buy her freedom.

o5. Matthias as an ex-cop tho. Having tried to report them, but his superiors are all bought off so it didn’t get him anywhere. Currently working as a bouncer because at least this way he can gather information if the feds come in. 

o6. FLAPPER NINA. Flirting with everyone who moves, and finding it especially fun to fluster the big blond bouncer~ She gives Kaz a headache, but she’s good in a fight so he keeps her around.

o7. Wylan as this rich kid who first came in to prove to himself that he wasn’t scared. And coming back partly because of the fact that it was one of the first places he felt like he wasn’t judged for his inability to read, and partly because of the tall black gangster with the infectious smile who could just be flirting with him.

o8. NINA AND JESPER BROTP THO. Like, they’re both the biggest flirts in the Dregs, but they’ve always got each other’s back. So they waltz in, charming (almost) everyone in the room quickly, and keep the mood easy and free.

IF Dimitri had known how much time the whole superhero thing was going to take out of his schedule, he probably would have reconsidered his involvement. Between his actual job & his hero activities finding any spare time was becoming increasingly complicated. 

THIS was the fourth date with Sia in a row that he’d been late to. Guilt gnawed painfully in his chest when as he knocked on her door. They were just going to be watching some movies at her place, as far as Dimitri knew, but he was still a whole thirty minutes late. The apology flew out of his mouth the second the door opened. 

“ I’m sorry I’m late , “ 

“ It’s just - work . You know ? My report took a lot longer than I thought it would , but deadlines don’t care . So I had to stay later to finish it . “ 

WHICH wasn’t entirely false. He did have an article that took much longer than expected, thanks to a certain co-worker of his wasting time with ramblings about his...alter-ego. It’s just that he also happened to walk past an armed robbery-in-progress on his way over && well. He couldn’t just ignore it. 

FIDGETING slightly as he looked at Sia, Dimitri hoped she wouldn’t be upset with him. She’d already been spectacularly understanding towards how strange his schedule had become &&& Dimitri liked her so much. The last thing he wanted was to make her think he didn’t care.
