In today's thoughts the brain has decided to pay a visit to Entica.
I finally gave in. After years of trying to make up something else, I ended up recycling old names after all, but now finally the three species considered as people in Entica all have names, and I can stop calling my main characters "the smaller, humanoid Entican species". After all, I did already scavenge Nawani from an old alien setting of mine, but I really tried to avoid taking Nueni from the same setting as well, just in case I ever wanted to return to tinker there, but I'll just make up something new if I do. Nraa was free, though. That was originally the name of my dinosaur people, who have since been renamed the Singing People (which in turn used to belong to my werewolf people back in my "highschool" days).
Some further species thoughts below.
The Nueni and Nawani are kind of a package deal, having coevolved side by side on the same continent, and having had kinda sorta somewhat similar case of mutual domestication as humans and dogs. Even though not all towns and settlements are cospecies, the two can read each others facial expressions, and generally understand each other's wordless communication, even if there's a language barrier. (Nawani speech is impossible for Nueni to speak completely due to differences in vocal anatomy, and Nawani speaking Nueni language requires practice and gymnastics about the same level as learning to draw by holding a pencil with your foot. It's possible, but very hard, and the speech will always sound a bit weird and breathy)
There was a Nueni migration event tens of thousands of tears ago, when bunch of them moved to the Ezek continent, evolving into a separate subspecies and becoming Ezek, and though there nowdays also lives a reasonable population on Nawani as well, those are a much later addition to the landscape, as it's harder to establish a self sustaining community overseas when you're horse sized and largely subsist on plant based diet. Stone age canoes might be adequate for the Nueni, but Nawani needed some later innovation to make the trip over.
The Nraa originally evolved on the Ezek continent, and while they can now be found basically everywhere the Nueni live, they mostly stick to doing their own thing.
While some Nraa have shown interest in integrating in mammalian societies, most prefer to stay separate, though there is very commonly some cooperation between the species. In some manner this often resembles relationships with the fae or forest/guardian spirits. It's widely customary for the mammalian people to leave gifts in specific locations, and in exchange the Nraa keep an eye protecting travelers, or can be hired to do special tasks the birds can do. They are also highly intelligent creatures capable of flight, who have a tool as part of their facial anatomy, so if you upset your local Nraa community, you can be sure they will remember it and treat you accordingly. Nraa also have the advantage of being capable of mimicing sounds and can learn mammalian languages, at least if they can be bothered with it.
