wait chat okay so in No Longer You, one of the lines of the prophecy is “I see you draw your final breath” which represents the last breath Odysseus took before he was in the water to fight Poseidon (Get in The Water).

Which in turn represents the death Odysseus as a man, and the birth of Odysseus as a monster.

And in Odysseus, when one of the suitors is begging for mercy, his line is

“Mercy? Mercy?

My mercy’s long since drowned.

It died to bring me home”

LIKE HOW ODYSSEUS’S MERCY DIED WHEN HE HAD TO TORTURE POSEIDON TO GET HIM TO CALL OF THE STORM SO THAT HE COULD GET HOME

The way Odysseus sings “No more of us deceased, cuz we won’t take more suffering from you” and then in the next song sacrifices six men is wild.

I like to think that he would’ve found another way but Eurylochus chose that moment to reveal that HE was the one who opened the wind bag, sending them to Poseidon and subsequently away from Odysseus’ family, that HE was the one who betrayed Odysseus’ trust. And I think that had a hand in why Odysseus, after the song Monster and Suffering, where he proclaimed he would be a monster to all but his own, and then suddenly Eurylochus wasn’t his own. And if he couldn’t trust Eurylochus, his brother in arms and second in command, who could he trust?

The Cyclopes were all children of Gaia and Uranus according to Hesiod's Theogony. Polyphemus, specifically, was purely Homer's addition, as well as Poseidon being his father. To Ody's knowledge, both of Polyphemus' parents were buried deep in Tartarus.
