I don’t see the point in comparing Kenka Banchou otome and Dance with Devil’s because of their episode length =.=
You may think the latter is trash and doesn’t deserve full length episodes but keep in mind that DwD was originally meant to be an anime, it was never an otoge adaptation but a franchise that has several adaptations of the same concept, to name all, a manga, an anime, a game, 2 stage musicals and an upcoming movie adaptation. Heck, it’s not even a Rejet only project nor is it affiliated with otomate or idea factory, the main publishers of most otome games. Dance with Devils was a collaboration project between Rejet, Avex pictures and Elements Garden, two companies of which promotes the music industry so of course the anime was a musical.
But is it the reason why KBO isn’t getting longer episodes? No, so why compare the two?
I believe part of the reason why KBO has shorter episodes is because:
1) The studio that adapted it isn’t well-known and is pretty new
2) Otome anime isn’t well recieved in general so they probably wanted to cut costs on full length episodes
3) I believe the publisher and developer for KBO isn’t as big as companies like Otomate and Idea factory
4) The anime was just for advertising purposes to get more people to play the game and the fandisc , meaning they just want you to get interested in the basic premise of the story.
There are many reasons why an anime would have shorter length episodes but blaming another show that was made by a different studio much less from a different publisher and developer for this is not something that should be done just because they both so happen to be reverse harems. Dance with Devils isn’t even the first otome anime to have full length episodes and neither is KBO the first otome anime to have shorter length episodes. It’s fine if you prefer the premise in KBO compared to DwD and think it deserves more longer episodes but in the end, it’s the studios themselves that decide how they adapt the source material.
Comparing it to DwD isn’t going to prove anything since DwD basically started out with a non-existent fanbase. If you think DwD doesn’t deserve it’s popularity then I have to tell you that this series isn’t really that popular in the first place( compared to the fanbases of other otome titles, I’d say DwD is just about average in popularity). It was popular when the anime aired but it’s been 2 years and the hype was long gone. It has many adaptations because that’s what the producers are doing to expand its fanbase. The movie was also possible because the franchise adopted the method of crowdfunding through the official supporters’ club. Popularity does play a part in the success of these adaptations but I think it’s mostly because the fandom has dedicated fans in their fanbase that are willing to spend money on the franchise that Dance with Devils was able to achieve what it has today.
