This is a scene from episode 5-6. After Munster. Bressler is the general ground crew supervisor. Mathers is a name I pulled out of the air for one of Ken's crew.
Bressler hands him the mission report first thing the next morning. Ken squints at it, then at Bressler. "Sir?" He doesn't read the mission reports. He learns what he needs during repairs on the forts. "You won't believe it if I tell you," Bressler says, and he looks oddly delighted. Ken sits at a desk and opens the report. He reads through it, then flips back to the front and reads through it again. When he looks up from the report, Mathers is standing over the desk. "What's that?" he asks Ken. Ken hands it over silently. "You won't believe it if I tell you," he says and walks outside to the hardstand where they've left Robert's battered fort. Ken stares at it in awe. He walks to her belly and opens the hatch, then climbs on in. ...executed fighter plane maneuvers… There's empty shells all over the floor. The fort smells like sweat and blood and metal. ...lined up the tail gunner to shoot down the Luftwaffe… Ken makes his way to the cockpit, touching bits and pieces of the fort as he goes. He sits in Robert's seat and stares out of the broken windshield. ...one dead, two injured… Ken leans back against the seat and closes his eyes. ...recommend a commendation for Captain Rosenthal… He cries in relief. In shock. In joy. To make one of these forts move like that. When there's a dead man and two injured on board. Ken laughs, sharp at first, but then giddy. He turns his head and looks out the side window, gets a sudden scent of Robert's pomade. He breathes it in and goes limp.
Thoughts on 2x06 aka iBuild a Team
Gonna jump right in and say that the episode did not disappoint. The pacing was done right and the plot was both entertaining and essential to so many aspects of the show. I know Josh Peck is only set to appear twice this season but I’m hoping he becomes a recurring character who’ll show up about 3-4 times a season.
First, let’s talk about the main plot. I think it was good of the show to address the business of the characters’ lives. With Freddie’s start-up taking off, we really should ask if he still has enough time to help Carly with the web show. It has slight parallels to the original when they were trying to get help from others and the dynamic just doesn't seem to be working out. To add, even though Sam was not explicitly mentioned in the episode, I like to think that the importance of her presence in the iCarly team was hinted at. The team was always mainly the trio, so with them down to two, it really is more difficult for Carly and Freddie to brainstorm and have balance amongst workload.
Second, the subplot. Though really entertaining, unlike 2x05, I did not particularly enjoy this ep's subplot. While I did like to see it be a bit focused on Harper, it was simply all over the place. I think Harper deserves her own main plot soon enough because of how interesting her life is (from a trust fund baby to a barista to stylist). The mention of Dutch gave me a thought that she might eventually come back, which is exciting to see. However, Millicent being reduced this season is overly disappointing. I wish to see her have more agency like she did in season one eps—the one with Gwen, the Sunshine Girls subplot, and her helping Spencer convince Freddie in the finale.
Third, the callbacks to the original show. From the very first scene we saw The Sack! Again, Sam wasn't explicitly mentioned in the episode, but minor details such as these somewhat serve as manifestations of her presence and how the characters are remembering/thinking about her. I have to give it to Nathan Kress for fighting to keep the claustrophobia callback. Details like these were woven so neatly in the show in a way where old fans like me would have a fun time with recalls but new fans won't necessarily have a hard time understanding. Also, I liked that Mandy mention. I wonder if we'll ever see her again?
Finally—and I know y'all are waiting for this—let's talk about the progress of romantic Creddie. I love how things are being taken slowly. It seems as if Carly doesn't really have intense jealousy yet, which is okay with me as I want a build-up. On another note, it was good to get to see Freddie's side of their situation. So far, we have more hints on what Carly feels so it is interesting that despite the maturity and solid platonic relationship Freddie has with Carly, he still feels minor jealousy with specific aspects such as iCarly.
Now I'm not saying that Freddie necessarily feels jealous in a romantic sense, but iCarly is a familiar safety net for Freddie. Career-wise, he'll always have it whether Kevin fails or not. Love life-wise, and I am gonna steal this insight from someone on YouTube whom I forgot, the show was technically built by Freddie. He built it not only because he saw talent in the two girls who eventually became his best friends, but also because of his intense crush for Carly. That crush he had eventually turned into genuine love (both platonic and romantic), so his attachment to the show has a lot of factors and layers. We can see this hint through the tarot bit which, although was slight entertainment factor, showed a lot about Freddie. I still don't know how their romance will play out, but one thing's for sure, we have already established groundwork for the intense drama.
To end I just want to say that I'm really excited for what's to come with the show. Adding to that, my sincerest apologies for this late post. The elections in my country were in play and the presumptive results took a toll on me. Side-note, if you've read up over what's happening in the Philippines, please do. The whole world must know how the situation is right now.
Wandavision episode 5 spoilers ahead
1. Okay so wanda is definetly not the one in control, but she doesn't want to leave it. The poor girl has been through enough. Someone get her a therapist please.
2. Her telling tommy and billy that the dead should remain dead, ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm sweetie you should maybe take your own advise. ( its okay i still love you)
3. They also confirmed that wanda is reanimating vision's corpse and not just using a projection or something.
4. I love how they address the fan theories through sword. Like the hexagons. It was jimmy's first question on the board and darcy keeps talking about it in this episode.
5. Can we talk about how hot wanda looked when she came out to talk to the sword agents. Like ma'am please end me!!!!!!
6. There's something definately off about the sword director. I don't like him.
7. SHE RECAST PIETRO. Lmao darcy being all of us. I knew that evan peters was gonna come back as pietro but i was still somehow shocked. I dont wanna wait a whole week. :(
LOKI EP5 SPOILERS
It's good to see that we as a fandom are focusing on what's really important
Look, I'm fine with the mcu recasting characters (things happen, it's whatever) but why would they acknowledge it in show? Why would Wanda recast her own brother? That bit doesn't make sense
Sls ep 5:
Kensei continues to be a selfish gremlin
Mr. Newspaper man knows the coach. They're definitely building things slowly with him.
Kubota, bby boi, angel.... u did your best ;-;
Kensei is finally learning to chill a lil. That's right kensei; respect your hardworking senpai.
We're finally getting the costumes!!!!!! Aaahhhhh!!!!!
So they're facing the twins first. Noice.
FATWS Ep.5
Ok, since I’ve seen no one talk about this I will. Now firstly, I just wanna say I love this series and this particular episode. From it’s character developments and interactions, story progression and many other things that make this show really enjoyable.
But there’s just one thing that really irks me about the way the racial topic was handled in this episode. I like the concept of it but not the execution. Right when I started this show and watched ep.1 and 2 I thought “wow, they really going there, huh?”, in all honesty I was really triggered and thought about giving the show a break for a while. (luckily it’s a week by week series so I had some time to decompress). However, there was a thought in the back of my mind that told me, “they’re not gonna do it.” and you know what? I was right.
The scene I was most looking forward to, where Sam confronts Bucky about what the shield and it’s symbol means to him as a black man in America was glossed over. We never even get to see how Bucky reacts, we just skip to him apologizing and understanding Sam’s perspective. I’m not saying the show should demonize Bucky for lashing out at Sam for giving up the shield in the first place but it would have been really nice to see an open discussion between the two about racism.
A dialogue between black people is rather useless in this context because as black people we already know this. We grew up with this, but to share our stories with others, getting them to understand and take that uncomfortable difficult step forward for tolerance and compassion is honestly a missed opportunity.
It’s this idea that black people have to have this racial talk with non-black people with “kid-gloves” on, everything has to be simple, easy to digest and it can’t make others “uncomfortable” or else it’s unacceptable.
Yes, Ik there is one episode left but from a story writing perspective this plot line has already been covered so there’s no point in bringing it up again except for small nods to it during the finale.
I’m not actually angry or anything because it’s what I’m used to in media, what I expected..but I’d being lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed.
