Novafrost is not queerbait.
I keep seeing people throwing around that novafrost is queerbaiting and gosh give me a moment please. Novafrost is exactly what queerbaiting is not.
Queerbaiting is a marketing technique that essentially does a "will they won't they" with characters to imply something queer may be going on or may happen, but never will. Think JohnLock from BBC Sherlock. Destiel from Supernatural. Those are queerbaited ships. The shows purposely make the relationships look like there's a potential for queer and never intended to deliver.
The canonically gay couple who have confirmed they are together and smooch in their headspace is not bait!!
Hey guys is it straight for two guys to kiss and be together forever and love each other romantically? Well according to a worrying number of fans! Apparently!
Queerbaiting is lying to get people to watch and be invested with the hope the "will they" pays off. If characters are confirmed in canon to be queer, then by definition its not queerbait. Another example of not queer bait is Korra/Asami in Avatar Legend of Korra. The girls kiss! They canonically date and are in a relationship! Korra is canonically bisexual! The show had a will they won't they and it delivered with the intention for it to be queer.
It's so wild to me that people are calling Novafrost queerbaiting like the show doesn't actively have so many queer characters and queer relationships that are canon. The show very clearly has queer character representation, but somehow the loving gay couple is bait???
