Ailanthus silkmoth, Samia cynthia, Saturniidae

Indigenous populations of the Ailanthus silkmoth are found throughout Asia, but as this species has been domesticated and is used to produce silk (domesticated larvae are known as the eri silkworm), it has also been introduced at some point to every other continent except Antarctica.

draw a moth every day challenge i'm pretty proud of how this came out, even if the coloring's a little messy! these are starting to not really be doodles anymore, moreso rough paintings lol all my previous doodles were in 1600x1200 resolution but i decided i wanted these to be a little clearer, so from now on they'll be in double that (3200x2400) sidenote: this piece is actually referenced from a pic i took myself of an eri silkmoth on my finger!! here:
