Today I share a story of racism, intolerance, white privileged and discrimination happening in my neighborhood. If you care about racial justice please share our story: Another Karen A neighbor, a teacher in New Orleans, has called the police twice to make false claims of harassment and property damage against my family. She is a person who goes out into the street cursing, using vulgar language and making derogatory remarks towards my family in an attempt to intimidate and discriminate against us. Witnesses in our street can attest to her verbal abuse. She cursed and yelled at the 1st police officer who responded to her false claims. The policeman can corroborate. She has been warned about disturbing the peace by the cops. We survived Katrina. Sadly now we are having to survive the surge of white privilege due to gentrification. Yesterday she called the cops falsely claiming that we had moved bricks from her flower bed causing damage to her flowers and that she was being harassed. She went out into the street again & began yelling obscenities at us and threatened to damage our car and call the cops for no reason. Although we tried to talk to her calmly & politely & asserted that we did not damage her flowers, she called the police again. She made false claims stating that we harassed her and damaged her flowers. As our neighbors will attest, she is an individual who frequently goes out into the street to yell obscenities. The New Orleans police department handled the situation professionally. I’ve been concerned every time she calls the police, because we are #Latinx and are more likely to be arrested due to our ethnicity. I’m afraid because her false claims put my family at risk of being unfairly arrested or tragically murdered like #GeorgeFloyd #BreonnaTaylor #EricGardner. Her false and irrational claims have been dismissed by the NOPD &prove that we have done nothing wrong.
