Every parent of a white child in this country knows and understands privilege deep down within us. Because every time this happens- when we watch Jacob Blake get shot in the back 7 times with his children watching, when we hear George Floyd call out “Momma,” when we gaze upon the sweet and innocent face of Tamir Rice- there is a voice deep down inside of us that stirs. And we look at our own children, and we hear that voice say “it won’t be them.” And we breathe a little better.

It is wrong. And it is true.

And anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.
