Angst prompt; Viri and Eric, "Why are you awake?"
((Hecc, hope it turns out good ;;))
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She was caught by surprise. It was her turn for patrol. She strayed too far, she held her own, but still, she was caught by surprise.
It was all a blur after that. Darkness was all she remembered.
Shuffling, muffled voices, the feeling of being watched. Watched, and being vulnerable. Her mind fought against the drowsiness, and she was made aware of a dull ache.
Wake up.
She groaned softly.
Wake up.
Energy’s voice.
It repeated, like a mantra. Her body felt heavy, her breathing was ragged...
Wake up. Or you won’t be able to.
Viri woke with a gasp, sitting up and immediately her breath caught in her throat. She didn’t even realize she was yelling before someone came scrambling through the opening of the tent and firmly pushing her down.
“Why are you awake?!” It was Ericson, the Night Watch captain. “You’re supposed to be resting!”
Viri’s head was reeling as she focused on trying not to throw up. Her stomach pulsed, dull pain throbbing over her limbs as her eyes rolled back. She gagged.
“Hey, hey. Look at me- No, stay with me, soldier,” Eric placed his hand under Viri’s head and gently lifted it, holding one of her hands with his free one. “Stay with me. You’re okay.”
Viri sniffed, looking up at the man. She was tearing up - the pain hurt. It hurt so bad.
“Captain?”
“I’m right here, soldier.”
Viri tightened her grip. She could feel the open wound threaten to spill her intestines if she moved any more.
“Please. It hurts.”
Eric sighed, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.
“Rest up. You’ll be alright. I promise.”
“But the mission-”
“You’re hurt. We’re staying.”
“Captain, please-”
Eric frowned. “Virilla Blueridge, you are hurt and one turn away from being disemboweled. We are staying, and that is final.”
She whined, closing her eyes.
“Just go to sleep, soldier. By the divines, why are you awake?”
