When I did a weekend away it was a huge refresher. Maybe just do a little research into each area and see what attracts you the most? Or just see if you can get any cheap last minute tics?

Chicago and San Francisco are the top two contenders right now.  The upside to San Francisco is that my first boyfriend, who is still a very good friend of mine, lives out there, and he and his wife have invited me out any time I want to go.

You know what?  You’re right about going somewhere close.

I’ve decided that I’m going to Niagara Falls for a weekend, but not this weekend.  Two weeks from now.  The reason is two-fold: I have a commitment this weekend, and it will give me something to look forward to for the next couple weeks.  Besides, driving through upstate New York during peak leaf change time is going to be so pretty and relaxing...

And Niagara Falls is within driving distance.  That’s a huge plus.  Have to save for Christmas, because the kids are going to want stuff.

And I love water.  Really.  Anything to do with rivers, lakes, oceans, I’m there.  Boats are my favourite mode of transportation.  I could just sit and stare at the falls for hours and feel completely content.

And Canada.  That’s just a bonus.

And thanks to everyone for their kind thoughts over the past couple days.  I know I don’t post often and I don’t have many followers, but I love you all.

no but seriously, fbnd will fuck you up. it finds that vulnerable place inside you and dares you not to wish that there was someone who’d see you and want to best for you and want to be seen by you the way enrique does for dok mi.

recs below, but i gotta warn you, enrique geum is a one of a kind male lead; there are some that are kind, but a lot are jerks who eventually ~cave in~ to the love they have for the heroine and stop being asshats.

modern classics (mostly romcoms) (the ones with stars are really good):

coffee prince*: cross dressing girl falls for rich boy with daddy issues

dal ja’s spring*: 30 year old career woman virgin falls for younger man who tries to escape his family by working as a person women pay to date. it’s about finding true love when we live in a world that keeps on trying to sell us fantasies about what true love should be.

flower boy next door*: recluse editor likes to peep on her neighbor but gets caught by said neighbor’s cousin one day and shenanigans ensue. tw: suicide for the 2nd or 3rd ep i think? lots of wonderful stuff about communication and it plays around with fairytale stories.

healer*: generational conflict and a pursuit for Truth and lots of skinship and an older hacker lady who will steal your heart

queen in hyun’s man*: so so so so good: hye jin is this bubbly actress from 2012 and boong do is from joseon times. he travels to the present and they fall in love. lots of political intrigue, but it’s a sweeping romance. tw: suicide for the last ep.

marriage not dating: classic romcom set up–guy needs to not get married so he gets random girl to pretend to be his girlfriend AND THEY FALL IN LOVE. some interesting family stuff, and the heroine is this larger than life character, like she can carry the entire would in her hands or something.

can we get married?*: not fluffy; lots of rapid dialogue; has this really wonderful and complex family of a mother and her sister and her 2 daughters and it talks about how difficult being a part of a family is and how hard it is to bring two families together. two of the relationships have jerks in them, but one of them is getting divorced.

kim sam soon: “fat” (but not really) modern day woman falls for a rich jerk who has scars from a past love

what’s up fox?*: 30 year old virgin suddenly realizes she’s done nothing with her life and has a bit of a crisis, her best friend’s little brother has been in love with her his entire liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiife, and she falls for him too. kinda creepy secondary couple, though.

crack dramas (you won’t be able to stop watching)

city hunter: lee min ho in his post boys before flowers pre wow he really can’t act glory. fast paced, fun, and kim nana is a girl after my heart. also park min young is really hot and i wish i had her hair.

healer* (mentioned above): park min young is also in this one. this is the show i was always comparing the flash to back in december/january. kind of like city hunter, only way way way better.

sungkyunkwan scandal: actual canon gay character! a crossdressing girl from joseon times enrolls in school as her brother and butts heads with the smarty pants guy and falls for him, and makes friends with all the cool people.

liar game*: so good. this girl gets roped into playing this televised program where people are pit against each other to win money, and she gets this guy to help her. no romance, episodic, lots of psychological stuff going on, very pretty to look at.

not super good but i enjoyed them a lot

witch’s romance: watch eps 1-6 and skip straight to 14. in fact you could just watch ep 15. suuuuch a cute noona romance, but ep 7-13 were really painful to sit through because her ex comes back and totally subdues her. also this is not a good drama in general. but that noona romance. and her wardrobe! 

ex girlfriend club: i thought this show was brilliant, but a lot of people tell me otherwise? super light plot about old best friends trying to date each other. great music, GREAT directing, really wonderful acting from byin yo han.

dream high: musical drama about youngsters with dreams! great friendship between the girl leads, but i was way into the secondary couple (kim pil suk!).

good doctor: medical dramas are my weakness, and this one is particularly intriguing cause the lead is autistic (the character, not the actor). very traditional episodic structure, and the romance is ver very very chaste, but joo won and moon chae won are super cute.

let’s eat: light on story, big on heart. lots of food and lots of eating and lots of friendships being formed.

love marriage: no one else has watched this but it is so lowkey and gentle and just really heartwarming. it’s about this match maker who falls for a man who’s been divorced. she lies to him and tells him she’s been divorced, too, and they become friends. workplace romance.

me too flower: I WILL DEFEND THIS DRAMA WITH MY LIFE. my husband and light of my life yoon shi yoon plays a super hot, but kind of a jerk, lead with SCARS FROM THE PAST and he falls for depressed and mean bing sun who always calls him out on his shit. not a romcom, but not really a melo either.

nice guy*: so freakin good. this guy takes the fall for his girlfriend and goes to jail for her and when he comes back out he’s vengful and full of rage cause she dropped him and married rich. to get his revenge he gets her new stepdaughter to fall for him ONLY HE FALLS FOR HER TOO.

scent of a woman: lee dong wook had just gotten out of army when he filned this, so if you’re into super chiseled guys with really defined abs, have at it. a woman discovers she has cancer and decides to live her life to the max and the rich kinda jerky boss guy falls for her. kinda like that queen latifah movie?

certified good shows (critically acclaimed?????)

miss korea: women women women women everywhere; i haven’t watched it 0_0

the end of the world: virus wipes out mankind; i haven’t watched it 0_0

a wife’s credentials: an upperclass woman in a frustrating marriage starts and affair; only watched first 2 eps 0_0

secret love affair: a woman in a loveless marriage starts an affair with a younger man (her student) who is an untrained piano prodigy: very sensual, lots of stuff about power grabs; only watched first few eps 0_0

cruel city: really great cinematography, an excellently developed atmosphere, lots of violence, about this cop who goes undercover to root out drug dealers and this girl who goes undercover as a call girl/sex worker (???) and they fall in love. now people say this drama is great, but i thought it was a lot of surface and little substance BUT THAT’S JUST ME; only watched first 10 eps 0_0

misaeng: really heartfelt story about finding your place in the world and in the workplace when you work a soulless office job; have nt watched 0_0

beloved: I AND ONE OTHER PERSON ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO HAVE WATCHED THIS but it is so frikkin good omg. ok so these two people have been married for 3 years but then her ex who dumped her for a rich lady comes back and this super cute girl from his childhood comes back, and thier marriage falls apart, even though they love each other like crazy.

la dolce vita: really really dark psychological drama. it’s got infidelity and a noona romance so naturally i adore it.

as you can see i have very deep pop sensibilities and have yet to watch all the good stuff that isn’t so popular, even when i like them, woops

OH I FORGOT along with moments that hit me hard/still make me feel things, aveline’s “the captain’s condolences” quest after “all that remains” because the story of her father. destroys me.

and when she asks hawke “drink?” it’s a rare occurrence where i can’t pick which of my favorite dialogue paths is my favorite:

but the real kicker is: “and when someone says ‘move on,’ you take their hand and say ‘my choice.’ that’s all i have. i’ll miss her too.” it gets me every time

56, 60, 77, 81!

56 -- Your absolutely NOTP?

I don’t feel particularly passionate about any NOTP, but one pairing I just can’t find it in myself to ship is Fenris/Anders, even going off of DA2′s rivalmance system (which I dislike and don’t think I’ll ever do). I’ve never been a fan of the “rivals becoming lovers” trope (like I could never fully get into Draco/Harry or Yami/Kaiba for example lmao) but there are extra :///// factors for me in the fact that they’re both individuals from/that support groups that have actively hurt the other. but I do wish they had become, if not comrades, at least more tolerable of each other and understanding where the other came from, since like Varric said, they do have a lot in common.

60 -- Who do you wish had been given more story?

ALISTAIR no lol I’m kidding, if anything between all of bioware’s material of him, he probably has too much compared to the others. I actually really wish zev had been involved more in later DA installments; zev’s cameo in DA2 was really nice but I feel like most of the other DAO LIs had more content. (alistair appears in DAA, DA2, and DA3 and has that comic book thing too, leliana appears in a DA2 DLC and DA3, and has her own DAO DLC, and morrigan has her own DAO DLC and features heavily in DA3. #BRINGBACKZEV)

oh also, shale. I love shale. like, a LOT. what if shale comes back in DA4 as a companion after managing to turn back into a dwarf? or not? what if they had more quests that were plot-related??? I basically just really like shale.

77 -- What moment/memory still gives you chills/feels?

all of these are from DA2 bc I was actually spoiled for most DAO plot points, haha --

All That Remains, for sure. like, I think I knew from the moment she was missing that she was a goner, and I had a nagging feeling I knew what’d happened the more we explored the killer’s hideaway, but I never thought they’d actually show... the result?? I thought we’d just never find her and she’d be presumed dead. when she gets up and staggers from the chair I just. urghh

as for other moments that still affect me, pretty much any ‘talk to fenris’ quest usually ended up with him spilling his guts to me and making me really emotional; isabela saying “tell me i’m not going to lose you” at her end romance scene; in the legacy dlc when hawke says “varric, do you want to spare [this old friend you haven’t seen in a while that made the crossbow you practically sleep with]?” and he immediately says “not if he’s after you, hawke” while loading bianca; and also tbh the moment we walk away after beating meredith, the templars look at hawke and hawke looks back, and they just leave, cause they’re done and they’re tired of playing nice and they don’t care anymore. and all your companions follow immediately, without question, leaving behind everything they’ve made together in kirkwall because hawke’s right, and it’s time to go

81 -- Favorite fanfic?

don’t do this to me

i have a hard time picking ‘all time favorite’ anythings bc my moods always change, but right now i’m really digging “by the still waters” by emilyenrose. it’s a “find hawke in the fade” post-da3 fic featuring fenris, varric, merrill, and solas (a really cool well-balanced non-human team!!). all the dialogue feels incredibly natural and in-character, the suspense is v well done, and ofc it has a great plot arc (from what’s available so far). i don’t normally do longfic that’s in progress bc i tend to binge-read/watch/play things, get impatient, and then get bored of waiting for later installments, but i’m keeping a close eye on this one for updates (which are consistently every week, hurrah!)
