Arrephoria
~ 3 Skirophorion ~
A celebration shrouded in mystery, Arrephoria celebrated Athena. Two young girls dressed in white and carried unknown items at night. From the top of Acropolis, the girls carried the items to temenos, a garden of Aphrodite. After they carried a different item back up to the city.
However, some historians believe that the Classical-Era festival was mixed with the Hellenistic-Era festival to Erse, goddess of dew. This festival would have observed the time fields were seeded in late autumn.
Since the girls passed the garden of Aphrodite, they passed a spring as well. This could be seen in the sense of dew, which Erse and her sister, Pandroso, were associated with. In this view, Arrephoria might have been a fertility festival observing the grain cycle.
