I LOVE the "supernatural Columbo" takes on the Internet and the whole "eldritch Columbo" thing. And it is not my fantasy or horror brain that loves it, but my fantastique brain - because it is the very definition of what the fantastique genre is meant to be about. A very ordinary, mundane thing, yet with enough eeriness and uncanniness behind it to allow for cosmic horror to slip behind pretty much what is else a down-to-earth, real-life story.
I love the "Columbo as the man from nowhere" or that funny post I reblogged of "Columbo as a new Venus Anadyomene", but as another episode aired yesterday I had a thought of my own...
Columbo as a male Eumenide, or rather as a reverse-fury. A male, ordinary-looking creature, a laugh-and-disdain-inducing sight, yet a relentless hunter of murderers who never lets go of his prey ; always calm, never angry, never frightening, but who frustrates, annoys, irritates, haunts and torments his victims to the point of breakdown and madness...
