I loved that little dig Kiros got in at the end of the video. It showed that their camaraderie has not changed over the years.

when fics on ao3 have 500K+ words and less than 30k hits, you know theyre seriously fucking underrated. this fic is my new post-FF8 canon man.

it goes into crazy depth on seifer’s trauma and his subsequent healing journey after running into squall 2 years post-war. pretty graphic violent imagery, heavy heavy angst, does discuss non-con and sexual assault (not between sxs), but main pairing is characterised so realistically. seifer starts off a hedonistic playboy who really needs therapy but he’s down bad for squall the second squall walks back into his life. they both change for the better!! they both make each other want to be better!!!!!!!! god i love reading relationships with huge fuckin growth

this fic will make u question everything about canon with how realistic the worldbuilding is😭😭it’s the longest sxs fic on AO3 😭😭 but it’s so worth the read.

last updated in 2023, so i’m crossing my fingers the fic isnt discontinued. authors posted some works in summer 2024…hopefully they’re still writing! this fic is my newest roman empire – i really hope it’ll be finished one day so i can download it and keep it forever to reread and reanalyze and cherish.

Ishtar

The name of the nation of Esthar from FFVIII was likely inspired by the Mesopotamian goddess of love, Ishtar. Her father – Sin, is the god of the moon (an allusion to Esthar's connection with it). 

Additionally, Ishtar gate was the eighth gate to the inner city of Babylon (an allusion to number 8).

Fan theory time: Raine is Estharian

Ever misinterpret something in a work of fiction and then wish it were canon? I’m asking this because I just remembered that a while ago while browsing the FF wiki, I really misunderstood Raine’s backstory as depicted there and ended up under the impression that they were saying that Raine was originally from Esthar.

I eventually realized I was mistaken, but man... ever since that misunderstanding, I’ve been wishing that were canon, because it would add so much to the world’s story.

Not only would that make Raine’s story even more tragic by having her leave Esthar to escape from Adel’s rule and violence, only for it to return to Raine when she least expected it, that would also make Squall half Galbadian, half Estharian, and not only do I love multi-cultural characters (of course, I suppose in the end, his true culture would Balambian, but you know what I mean) and I think there aren’t enough out there, considering Squall’s own beliefs that neither side of a conflict is ever inherently right or wrong, how fitting would it be that unbeknownst to him, he were the result of people from both sides of the war falling in love with each-other?

Well, I suppose Raine’s origins were never explicitly stated so there’s no indication that she isn’t Estharian, so it could still work, right? Either way, I would really like to know what you guys and gals think of this.
