Humans with Crests aren't necessarily the descendants of the source of the Crest - rather, they're the descendants of humans who received the *blood* of the source. So Lin has a bit of Flayn blood but no DNA connection. As the blood fades out of the family line, like any trait, the amount of Crest power dies off. Major to Minor.

So either there were some transfusions made of Saints’ blood on the battlefields - it wouldn’t surprise me if Flayn did, she’s a sweetheart, she’d want to save people at any cost - or just their getting their blood shed in battle ended up with other people getting it on them enough to get the Crests

It's because of HOW Ingrid's apology to Dedue is written. It's not "oh wow I was racist and need to work on that". She literally pulls the "but you're not like them" card. Treating Dedue as a seperate entity from all other Duscur survivors. To put that in perspective imagine a gay personbeing born into a homophobic family that constantly talks down on gay people, only for the family to stop and say "oh but not you though, you're one of the GOOD ones".

rereading their supports, I interpret it a bit differently? Ingrid says “I thought the people cruel and heartless, deserving of the tragedy that befell them”, and then says “But you? You’re different. You seem nothing like the people of whom I speak”, which, yes, looks bad at a glance...

but then follows up with “So why not speak back against how I and so many others feel? Why not question this unfair prejudice, and tell me I haven’t the right to hold a grudge against you?”, and “You are not to blame. The people I hate are the ones who are responsible for that whole mess”, which implies to me that what Ingrid means when she says the above is that Dedue being so different from what she's been taught a person of Duscur is like made her realize she was wrong; so it’s not so much “you’re different from the rest” as it is “you’re nothing like what I thought, and that made me question my beliefs”

which, I think, is also a more reasonable response to the point Dedue is trying to make: “But just like anywhere, there were many different people in Duscur. Some very good, and others very bad.” it seems more like it’s heading in the “you can’t hate an entire country for the actions of a few” direction, which, well... is true :D

(on the other hand I’ve heard Hilda does a “huh you’re not like them!” thing with Cyril too so perhaps I’m being a bit naive in my reading here...)
