(1821–1890), a British geographer, explorer, translator, writer, soldier, orientalist, cartographer, ethnologist, spy, linguist, poet, fencer & diplomat. He was known for his travels within Asia, Africa & the Americas, & he spoke 29 European, Asian & African languages. He first translated the Kama Sutra into English.
The namesake to NYU’s student portal and the School of Individualized Study, Albert Gallatin wore many hats over his illustrious career. The one we’re most excited about, of course, is his role as the founding father of New York University! To him, we’d like to wish a very happy (Founding) Father’s Day!
