Hierarchy of evidence
Looking at my top original posts, I am going to hazard a guess that most of my followers follow me for the GIFs.
Being a personal fitness blog, I also share the occasional opinion (via quotes) or anecdote, but Optimal Fitness is primarily an evidence-based fitness blog on which I try to share the results of exercise and nutrition research in ways that are easy to understand.
My science posts are sourced from the top of the hierarchy of evidence: systematic reviews, meta-analyses and the odd randomised controlled trial.
Besides finding animal testing deplorable, I think studies lower down the hierarchy are of no use to anybody except researchers who have the means to investigate a hypothesis further. When the results of two-a-penny observational studies are misreported by the mainstream media, confusion reigns.
