Parent Headcanons - Eula Lawrence and Keqing

A/N: Hi Anon! I'm sorry you had to wait. This one... well, it turned out quite a bit more serious than I expected. Especially with Keqing - it turned into (basically) angst. I'm sorry if you don't like it. I would be really grateful if you shared your opinion in the comments.

Male reader.

Eula Lawrence

Eula’s parents were… not great, to say the least. They kept pushing her towards being a traditional figure, dictated by the Lawrence clan’s long legacy. That involved plenty of indoctrination, gaslighting and putting down her own needs and dreams. 

She realized this was not normal in her late teens, and she made her escape to the Knights. Even though most citizens of Mondstadt grew to dislike her, Eula found a few close friends to help her through her darkest years. You were one of them. 

The desire to be better than one’s parents is natural and ever present, as role models are quite rare in reality. This need was especially strong in her. It was the image of having kids that kept her from leaving this world behind, and when you met all those years ago, the images reappeared in her happiest moments. 

Eula made plans long before you met, imagining what rules she would put in place, what values she should instill, she read books about motherhood and parenting. Yet she never told you, until one warm night. 

She grabbed your hand, and told you about her dream while looking into your eyes. She said how she wants to be the mother her mother never was, and you to be the father hers never managed to be. She told you about her dream of building a home together, a safe place for both you and your children.

And how could you refuse her?

Eula will want to wait for marriage before anything else. 

When she speaks that one, simple word, Eula will just burst into tears. Just like that, the weight and past sins of her last name will be finally left behind, and she could fully become a new, better person. 

A few days will pass until she’s ready. Eula just wants to wait until everything calms down, really. And it will be a surprise too. You’ll just wake up one lazy morning, cuddled together, and she will whisper a simple ‘It’s time’ into your ear.

Eula is going to drop field work entirely from the moment you are sure she’s carrying an heir. When Varka comes back from his travels, he will most likely provide Eula with a comfy desk job. She’s done a lot for Mondstadt, hasn’t she? Eula deserves it. 

No drinks will be had for the entire duration of her pregnancy, which will be quite long. 

Because Eula always wanted to have two children, preferably a son and a daughter. As soon as her body will recover after giving birth Eula will want to go again, to keep the age gap as small as possible. If she’ll give birth to two kids at the same time there won’t be a need to, of course. 

Eula always insisted on doing all the menial housework, which bamboozled you at first. She just wanted to get lots of practice in cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and so on, as her royal upbringing never gave her the chance to. The woman is well aware of the reality of parenthood, and wishes to get used to the routine.

It’s hard for sure, but she is willing to endure the difficulty. This is one investment worth every second, every drop of sweat and blood in her opinion. 

Seeing Eula with dark bags under her eyes and a tired smile on her lips will be common during the early years. 

The knight will pester you about your job a lot if it involves danger. She quit hers, and would love you to do so as well. If combat is your calling… Well, she understands. Doesn’t mean that you won’t get an earful and a half every time you get back with fresh injuries. She will have her vengeance for every single scratch you get on yourself!

Ever since her work hours shortened dramatically, Eula gets to be home a lot more. She will gladly welcome you home after work with a warm meal and lots of cuddles. 

Don’t think you will be neglected because of the kids. Your wife will make sure to give attention to you as well.

Oh, and about attention. Eula is a good mother, maybe even too good. See, she’ll hog most of the quality time with your kids, at least when they will be young. It’s usually a competition between you two over who gets to go out with the little ones. 

Who would expect a bottomless supply of patience from her? She’ll spend 16 hours a day with her offspring and she will love it. 

Eula is a very caring mom, but she sometimes struggles with correcting bad behaviors and administering punishment. So yeah. You’ll get to do the unpleasant work. 

She will ingrain only universal qualities and morals into her kids, making sure to teach them that the sins of those who came before don’t cross out the person of today. 

Will not influence the careers her kids will pursue, but will help wherever she can. 

Just… be by her side when they grow up and leave to chase their own ambitions. She will feel very lonely if you don’t. 

10/10, no doubt. Always wanted to have kids, and prepared accordingly. She will raise some great individuals with your help.

Keqing

Keqing has three goals in life. First - and foremost - to build a strong, independent and prosperous Liyue Harbor. Second - to find a partner, and third - to start a family. 

Well, she had three. Now, only the first one remains. The young Keqing is not the same woman as the Keqing of today. She had grown immensely, but in a troublesome direction. 

You see, Keqing’s dreams are… not actually hers. They never were. It all comes down to her upbringing. 

Keqing is a part of Liyue nobility, who have strict values and goals. From her earliest days, those objectives and desires were imprinted on her mind. Everything she did was centered around the execution of them, not leaving much space for her own aspirations. Well, no time was left for it either - she was constantly snowed under assignments, tests, meetings and internships. She always had to prove herself, prove that she is indeed worthy of her family name. 

And so, her dream of having a family faded and faded, until nothing of the motivation was left. Like with every childhood dream she had. 

All of that pressure also resulted in her problems with interpersonal relations. Focused around achieving her ‘own’ goals, she saw (and still sees) others as elements of the background, coworkers or useful tools and assets in reaching her objectives. Keqing has become selfish. Self-centered. Egoistic. 

For example: People say Ganyu’s mindset is hard to understand, but that’s a nifty little lie to hide the severe lack of compassion and basic empathy for her among others in Liyue. Keqing may have had a hand in propagating this statement. Independent of what Ganyu sees Keqing as, the former will never see the secretary as anything else than an inferior at whom she can throw more and more assignments.  

You may have reawakened her dream from ancient times, when she still used to play with dolls. But Keqing has adopted a specific mindset throughout her life, and that will make pregnancy and child upbringing only another box on her checklist. 

She won’t give up her work, or even limit it for that matter. Her job is more important than family and you, so she’ll agree to a single child at most. And that will be also on the condition you will take care of them. 

She’s the mother that’s never home for sure. Also, a scary one at that. 

Will reprimand her kid, whatever the sex may be, for bad grades. 

Keqing will not understand many struggles someone not like herself may have, such as depression or lack of motivation. It all makes sense in her head - why don’t they work harder? They see how they can end up, right on the streets and outside of Liyue Harbor. Treasure Hoarders, Fatui, beggars and bums. She thinks her child will become just that if they don’t ace all the classes. 

She speaks about this kind of thing often. Why? Because her parents told her the same when she was this age. Many of the awful parenting techniques she was subjected to will creep their way into her own methods. 

Literally the asian parent. She has lots and lots of cash on hand thanks to her job, and she puts an adequate amount of this into the education of her young. Piano lessons, private tutors and martial arts - everything will be covered in this investement. What a shame she doesn’t put an equal amount of effort into this deal.

She will help the kid with school work, but that’s about it. 

Ningguang will surely notice what’s going on between you two, and will mercilessly point it out to Keqing. Maybe with your combined efforts, the woman will be able to change for the better. 

But that chance is quite low.

2/10. Keqing isn’t meant to be a mother. Keqing doesn’t want to be a mother. Not anymore, at least. She is too busy chasing somebody's dream for motherhood.

Synopsis: After finding Eula at the Cat’s Tail, you conjure a bubble to keep her out of trouble

Warnings: None just fluff

Eula was anything but an alcoholic. In fact, she prides herself on not being one of the many drunkards that walk around the streets of Monstadt with a sloppy sway in their step. For the betterment of her job, she’s keen on keeping her mind sharp.

But there are times, her worst days in particular, when a night spent at the Cats Tail seemed incredibly more appealing. One drink became two, and two became three, and by the time you find her she was having an invigorating one sided conversation with a small calico cat that sat in her lap.

Diona stood behind the bar, and when she saw you she motioned towards Eula with annoyed yet pleading eyes. You lightly shake Eula’s shoulder and when she turns her head, angry at whoever dared to disturb her conversation, her face relaxes. It’s you! My lover! Look how stunning you are under the lantern’s light!

“Darling,” you start, “how much have you had”. All she does is laugh, her mouth trying to form words but all that comes out is the word “cat”.

You help her off the bar stool and to the door as you try to convince her to please drop the cat you can’t take it with you. You can practically hear Diona’s annoyed huff as you close the door behind you.

“How about we go for a walk?” You say. Perhaps burning energy with a walk around monstadt could get her somewhat sober, or at the very least tire her out.

She only gets worse as you both make your way up the cathedral. In the short amount of time it took to walk from the Cat’s Tail to the Cathedral, Eula has sung 3 different songs, cried, and cussed out a bush that was in the shape of a person. Her slurred voice echos around the glistening pillars, but among those echos you also hear the faint sound of footsteps inching closer and closer.

Diona was the only other person who had seen Eula in this state, but the luck had apparently ran thin. Eula was already trying her best to repair her broken reputation, and having one of the sisters see her like this wouldn’t help her achieve that. With no other choice, you summon a bubble around Eula and send her to the sky, just in time for Sister Victoria to turn the corner.

You exchange pleasantries before she asks if you were up here alone, to which you deny with a straight face. “That’s strange, I thought I heard that Lawerence around…”. You subtly look up and do a double-take when you see Eula shouting and clawing at the bubble, the sound completely being drowned out. Before Sister Victoria can ask what it is you’re looking at, you mention the time and send her away in the other direction.

You sigh out of relief as she walks away. Turning your head towards Eula, she is still fighting against the surface of the bubble. Even if you weren’t caught, you mull over the possibility that it may be your best interest to keep Eula in a place where she can’t cause any more trouble.

Her motions become slowed more and more, the banging of her fists against the bubble lies limp against the surface and she falls asleep against the bubble

When Eula wakes, she’s already swearing vengeance at whoever is piercing her with an onslaught of light. After rubbing the drowsiness from her eyes she realizes that she’s high up in the air, higher than the anemo archon statue itself. Confusion and panic etches in her brow as she looks around her surroundings. She sees you sitting, technically floating, next to her in a bubble of your own, staring off into space. The memories start flooding back and she burns in embarrassment at her behavior from the night before.

Eula notices you fall out of your daze, turn to her, and smile. You maneuver your bubble closer to hers and all Eula can think is that your smile is brighter than the sun. Both bubbles slowly combine until it’s one big shared bubble where you and Eula can finally be side by side.

You pull Eula down to have her head tuck into the crevice of your shoulder, somehow already knowing that Eula could feel the pounding of a headache creeping up on her. The gleam of the sunrise isn't so bad when Eula is in your arms. Her breath catches in her throat as she watches red, pink, and orange mist travel across the trees and mountains, watches as the red roofs of the city saturate to match the sky, and watches as your hand intertwines with hers.

Eula hopes that the next time this happens, she isn't nearly blackout drunk the night before.

she tells you everything without you needing to ask and always leaves no room for doubt with her exaggerated motions and loud, happily singsong voice that sounds somehow sweet to your ears; an enthusiastically offkey songbird with so much to say, of course you'd listen even with her terrible method of telling you things where she has to work backward and circle around and add in details that might not have happened so she can keep your attention.

she's bizarrely afraid of that captivated expression disappearing from your face and lifting your head from where you rest your chin on your hands eagerly, nevertheless she has no reason to worry since you'd listen to her explain anything, there's just something about the way she talks that makes you think she could narrate paint drying and keep up that cheerfully excited rambling with such a unique tone to it that it has you paying attention for hours.

you could never put it into words, that quality that sounds so emphatically real to you, but she is just an amazing person in every way that you want to know more about, forever be closer to. her hands are a mess of jumbled memories, chipped black polish swiped cheerfully and messily on her bitten down nails, colorful ink staining her fingertips, cuts and burns littering her skin.

every mark harbors a story behind it that she can't wait to tell, bubbling over with excitement when she sees or hears or tastes something new. she's incurably unruly and you know all too well, of course you're likely to get in trouble when she's around, but when she offers her hand with a hopeful smile you take it without hesitating, without even room for thought, because maybe someday you could be another story of hers with a beautiful ring on her finger.

♪ CHILDE

he has never presumed to understand you the way he grins smugly at the traveler and his fellow harbingers, his blue eyes blinking slowly with a mocking surety as if to say he knows everything from only a single glance, he knows that there is much more to you than he is gathering from one look in your direction and it piques his curiosity with a dangerous, pounding heartbeat that usually only accompanies his first step into a battle that he is gleefully and blissfully unsure of his victory in. that feeling almost always instantly disappears -- the common treasure hoarder or hilichurl is no match for a war machine like him -- but here it remains, months after your first meeting.

the way he feels when he's with you is odd; it's a troubling sensation that breaches admiration and falls into another category he has never assumed to approach before, anxiety inducing in its novelty, but this is almost more of a blessing than a curse because he thrives on novelties and strange things he's never seen before, a new and unforeseen challenge. he wants you to think of him the same way, wishes so dearly that you were as filled with persistent desire to understand, to know everything about each other.

he treasures time spent with you, almost painful intensity charging the air between you every time you exchange a fleeting glance, he's a charmer and a trickster and his smiles are as bright to everyone else as they are to you though the emotion behind them stretches infinitely on. you think maybe you can see the glimmer of a secret he wants to share with you sometimes in the depths of his eyes that seem to watch you with such adoration when he thinks you're not looking, but that's just an incorrect assumption of his because you can always feel his arrogant and still somehow tentative gaze on your back.

and it's predictable and understandable, he is who he is and you like him anyway, maybe even love him, so bring it on! he'll crush this challenge like he does everything else. everyone knows he never loses -- even in a matter of the heart, he's sure he'll be able to win and earn your affections somehow, because he cares too much to fail, after all, and he'll do it all with a smile on his face because this competition, this time by your side, warring an unknown battle that you aren't even fighting in, is as precious as the prize.

♪ EULA

she doesn't have to treasure spare praise and comments she may never hear again close to her chest, the idea that another person would willingly offer her a compliment and a throwaway word of kindness that meant so much to her even if it was nothing to the giver, because you have so much to offer her, and so freely, too. it's almost shocking, and she has to counter your gentle, soft sweetness with sputtering and halfhearted promises of revenge.

and every time the words slip out she has a moment of nausea and her heart dropping because she's sure this is the time where you'll leave just like everyone else when they saw how truly confused and attached she was to her bizarre, aggressive turns of phrase that were like a shield -- and yet you stay, with only a look of pure understanding and kindness in your eyes, and it makes her feel terrifyingly weak and yet she somehow adores it and adores you, the person who has endless patience to offer her and she could never word properly what it means.

so she tries her best to spell it out in gestures that a person who knew any less about her would never truly see, but you do. it's impossible to explain how she feels, why this means so much to her when it's an easy gift, easy thing to anyone else in her home land that defines itself by freedom and breaking chains that tie you down, but it was her who never was able to simply be herself for fear of punishment. and it's more than you could ever understand, that feeling of finally belonging somewhere.

being a source of happiness for someone else who loves her, actually really loves her, is something she'd give anything in the world for even only vanishing moments of. even if she can never say it properly, her pale face floods with color every time you say anything that even vaguely encapsulates how you feel towards her. your love is just powerful enough that it all comes across in even one word that she finally can stop clinging onto memories in a way that even she knew was pathetic, you have so much to spare and she hopes to someday repay you in full but for now she only blushes bright red and silently offers her gratitude to fate for bringing the two of you together.

♪ EI

"eternity" is a fragile promise, a fleeting wisp of a word that is so easy to speak and so hard to grasp and truly enact as her cold, unchanging will across an entire nation. she cups it in her hands like a shining firefly that will disappear if she looks away for too long; treasuring this wholehearted motivation that stems from such an awful place, the memory sitting within her chest like a heavy stone that weighs upon her at all times.

this is her safety, her security, her grounding point that she can fall back upon when she wonders for barely a trifling second why she is causing all this suffering. she knows the truth, knows the reputation that inazuma gathers throughout the other nations as being ruled by a tyrant with an iron fist who selfishly refuses to care for her subjects, and she understands that with unspeakable pain that she buries far beneath her wooden and unchanging tone. if she allows herself to think for more than a moment -- to resonate even briefly with the people she loves so much she imprisons -- the whole masquerade comes crashing down.

it's your laughing expression that brings such a happy feeling and warmth to replace that sensation, the infinite cold accompanying her infinite lightning redundantly, walking hand in hand down a road alone with rain pelting down on her back. on this path that she set herself on, that she sees no way off now and understands the only way is forward, she sees your reluctance to join her; the way your eyes graze over the stormy sky and she sees the flash in your gaze, the sudden understanding of her present situation, and she closes her eyes until the skies brighten and you appear holding a bouquet of flowers and wearing a bright smile with your hand outstretched.

she doesn't get it; fundamentally you couldn't be more different, the solitary archon who stands alone for her own personal reasons that she hesitates to explain to any ordinary mortal like you -- and yet, she has to tell you the truth, because you ask so often and so genuinely and she wants you to see her truly even if you are the only person in the world to do so because somehow you always saw the best in her and it's her guilty pleasure to know that someone still thinks her amazing, someone still believes in her as the benevolent goddess she was, someone can hold her tight through this seemingly never ending darkness of her own creation, and she wants that person to be you.

♪ THOMA

you fell in love with him at first sight, just like the rest of the hundreds of people who were lucky enough to encounter him even once during their entire lifetimes, finally understanding what it means to be struck dumb by how beautiful someone is. the shallow adoration that many held close to their chests, wishing wholeheartedly to be able to see him again although they knew in truth that it would never work, was nowhere to be found; for he too knew from the start, from the first time his emerald gaze fell upon your face, that the image of you would never again vanish completely from his mind.

it's a new and curious feeling for him, being able to understand that this warm emotion that plagues him whenever he thinks of you is something called 'love'; he has always known of it but not known it, and here he is now with you. he is lucky enough to know that you love him, telling him in so many words, and with the swell of a choking feeling in his chest, the heat that flushes his face red, he doesn't even have to say it for you to know, he can tell you easily in all but out-loud words that he reciprocates in full.

he is somehow unbearably beautiful to you, a shining example of all that's good in the world, a person who you consider to be truly perfect, almost too wonderful to truly exist and with boundless positivity and kindness that is shockingly genuine, just being around him brings a smile to your face because he always seems so earnestly happy, resolutely loving everything about the world around him with somehow infinite generosity and happiness.

little do you know that his unfailing sweetness and gentle demeanor is partially a result of his desire for you to see him as someone you can trust, someone who will always be on your side no matter what, because it's true, he'd give anything for you in an instant. and his thoughtless and unflappable optimism to adore the whole world and all that's in it, the way his eyes seem to view everything through rose colored lenses, is because of you; you're in this world, and with all its flaws he can't help but love everything and wear that endless smile because you are the best thing he knows, the best thing he will ever know, and you make everything seem brighter.

it had taken eula months to warm up to you. to not tense up any time you took her hand, or wrapped your arms around her.

she loved you, but physical touch was foreign. the lawrence clan was no easy place to have a childhood in. the bullying from other children because of her family’s origin. the bullying from her own family because of harsh standards. it never stopped tormenting her.

when she met you, everything changed. she had been working hard to redeem herself by the knights of favonius, but you handed a second chance to her.

everything was so new.

the shopkeepers would greet her with smiles instead of grimaces. children running around the city would wave rather than run away. everyone was friendlier to her, maybe even nice.

being with you changed her life. your adventures together were no longer chores, but mini dates fighting hilichurls and slimes! sweet madames for dinner while the sun sets over dragonspine. holding each other to keep warm during the chill of mondstat winters, laughing together while watching the birds migrate.

your reality with her was so peaceful. being with each other soothed the both of you, and you even felt your worries of finding your sibling dissipate just slightly.

it was so rewarding to see her smile. her face lights up, a rare thing to see from her usual stoic expression. your heart was full of how she reached for you for comfort during tough battles. how when you made a sound of distress, she’d look over.

EULA LAWRENCE

I have a feeling she’d struggle with the same thing.

She’d struggle with communication, seeing as she lacked both familial love and the understanding of romantic love growing up. 

Eula was never good at handing out compliments, and physical affection was never her favorite.

It’s not that she didn’t like you, nor did she dislike you touching her, she just didn’t like being touched in general. Similar to how a cat only likes being pet at certain times.

When you first established a romantic relationship, the official title of dating dangling over your heads, the pressure felt immense. Especially considering Eula had never invested in someone romantically, and you lacked communication in every aspect.

Your conversations consisted of red faces and on edge twitching.

Not the most ideal! But Eula cherished the moments, even when she’d kick at her bed and get frustrated with herself for saying something sarcastic to you, every night.

The gifts started appearing one by one, each increasing by the week. Sometimes it was a little treat, or a cute trinket. 

Or a love note, “Thank you so much for all your hard work, I’m very excited to see you again today. -(Y/N)”

Or both!

Sometimes there’d be little love poems, most were original. Or an excerpt quote from some cheesy romance novel. Eula loved it anyway.

They appeared in Eula’s office, you’d given them to her maids and servants to welcome her home with, and you’d give them to her yourself on dates. Eula showed her appreciation towards these things a lot more abstractly than you had.

One time, you had mentioned that one of your uncles was collecting funny looking spoons. You also had mentioned you were thinking of collecting something like that too, and it was a harmless topic you had come up with. That week, at the end of a date which consisted of binge eating at Good Hunter, she gave you a very elaborate steak knife.

Because you had mentioned wanting to collect some kind of decorating silverware, she decided she’d start your collection off with a custom made kitchen blade! How sweet!

You took it as some sort of threat. 

“Is she gonna kill me? Am I getting that annoying?”

Eula quickly reassured you that she had no intentions of hurting you, and that she liked you perfectly fine. All of which with a variety of stutters and a very red face.

She keeps all your love poems and notes in a chronologically organized drawer and reads through them before she goes to sleep.

LISA MINCI

Lisa enjoys physical touch, but she’s very nice about respecting boundaries regarding your preferences with being so close.

When you had first started leaving love notes and gifts, she was very flattered, and returned the favor by brewing your favorite tea and giving you baked goods. 

You’d given her quite a few novels which weren’t in her library, and she had her own personal collection of books, an entire shelf dedicated to the novels which you had gifted her. Lisa used the notes you write as bookmarks, but one time it got wrinkled a little and she hasn’t forgiven herself yet.

Her favorite gift to receive from you is flowers, specifically red roses. She’s always so upset to throw out the withered blooms.

She understands your troubles, and also writes small poems for you. 

You had made a small notebook worth of nothing but her sweet poems, you cherish it. 

One time, you had continued her poem, and then you had made a very long poem which you had both contributed to. You’d like to do that again.

Jean finds your love poems and notes before Lisa does sometimes, and she treats it like an egg hunt. Lisa didn’t get it when Jean came to her with some sort of cryptic rhymes and riddles, all created by Klee.

You didn’t know about it, but you watched Lisa scurry around the headquarters with a wide smile.

Lisa loves brewing sleepy time tea for you, and then sleeping by your side. That brief moment of exhausted relief is her favorite moment she shares with you, almost beating your sweet good morning notes and a fresh brew of coffee. 

There was one time where you were in a rush and didn’t have time to do those things for her, and she spent the entire day thinking you were furious with her. Jean and her had a very serious conversation about it, poor Grandmaster.

Overall, 10/10, she loves it.

SHENHE

She thought someone was stalking her at first, so she never opened the gifts out of paranoia. When you had confessed it was your doing the entire time she felt really bad. 

Shenhe still kept them, and accepted all of them. 

She lacks understanding for poetry, she can still read but isn’t familiar with it enough to understand the metaphors you make when you write her notes. She’ll still pretend she knows about it. 

You realized that shopping for her was insanely hard considering she didn’t eat whole meals unless it was some sort of assorted salad of wild herbs, and she disliked most material things. So you were really stuck on how to convey your feelings.

So your next idea was writing anecdotes. 

She adored those, most were small cheesy romance stories about kissing and cuddling. Both you and Shenhe avoided such notions due to the mutual lack of communication. You weren’t the best writer, but every now and then she’d come up with some cute idea, or do something adorable and you’d write about it to her. 

Shenhe never understood that all of the things you would write in such an idealized manner were ever about her specifically and thought it was just similar characters, and when she found out it was her she couldn’t help but be flattered. She could hardly look you in the eyes without becoming a blubbering mess.

The anecdotes were only a few pages long, and she keeps every single one of them. You have no idea how she keeps all of them with her at all times, but she does. 

Out of your few years of officially dating, she’s only purchased you one gift, and it was an earring. One of which to match hers, two halves of one piece. 

It was the most heartfelt thing she had ever done for you, and it was enough to keep you by her side for the remainder of eternity. 

Shenhe began frequenting libraries and bookstores to familiarize herself better with poetry; she still couldn’t understand cryptic messages inside metaphors. She tried to write you a poem about vanquishing a beast, and it was supposed to be how she was so happy to meet you through all of her harsh times.

You didn’t get that message, and there was no way to tell you without her becoming embarrassed. So she just kissed you until you could understand. 

“So, you like killing big animals? Is that what it’s about?”

You weren’t allowed to breathe for a few minutes, her lips were stuck to yours. For some reason she thought just kissing you for an extended amount of time was a good way to convey her feelings.
