Unlikely buddies Hawaii and Utah favor “slipped away,” as if life were but wet spaghetti in our hands. (But isn’t it?)
Imagine, if you will, that you wake up with the biggest zit in the middle of your face. You try to pop it and it doesn't work. In fact it makes it worse because now the whole area surrounding it is red and the zit looks even bigger. Maybe you try to cover it with makeup or styling your hair in a way that covers it, maybe you wear a face mask, but nothing can hide it. It is always visible. In the end you give up and decide you must go about your day.
Everytime you speak with someone at work or at school, or the barista at your favourite coffee shop, you can't help but think that they're definetly noticing the zit, they're definetly thinking about it, maybe they'll bring it up? So you try your best to cover it, maybe with your hand, or turning your face in a way that might hide it. But you just know that they're seeing it. This humongous zit, ready to pop.
Throughout the day you start to forget about it, that is until you walk past your reflection in a store front window and you are reminded yet again that you have this disgusting thing right there!
Or when you catch a glimpse of your shadow in profile and you can basically see the huge lump and misshapened look of your silhouette.
Or when you go to pick a Stray hair off of you and your finger graces that thing.
You manage to forget it for a few wonderful minutes/hours, and then you are reminded of it again. And again. And again.
And everytime you remember it you feel so bad, self conscious, and you become hyper aware that others can see it.
Sure, you could go on living your life, because it doesn't make you feel bad all the time, just some of the time. But if you could just get it removed it would mean you wouldn't have to worry about it anymore. It would save you from so many moments of remembering it's existence and maybe, just maybe, you could go a full day without feeling bad about yourself because of that thing. Sure, it might leave a scar in it's place, but a scar fades, a scar can be covered much easier with a little bit of makeup, or wearing something on top of it, if you so wish to hide it. A scar will definetly make you feel more happy and comfortable being perceived by others than the bulging thing you are dealing with now.
Yet some people will tell you that it's a normal thing and it's part of you so why should you remove it? Because they're happy with it, they like it. It makes them happy. When people comment on it's size they're proud and confident. So opposite to you. You tried to play along with how others react to theirs, but it doesn't feel right. It never does. Some people have even complimented yours and expressed jealousy even. But you just know if you could take it off and give it to them you would. No questions asked.
Sure, you can live with it, because it doesn't make you feel bad all the time, just some of the time. But does that mean you should?
