Euskirchen

Make Euskirchen clean again ... (doppeldeutig)
No matter the amount of compassion, seeing pictures like this usually still feels abstract…
…until you know those places.
This is basically my home, the places I grew up in, the people I spent half my life with.
It’s Bad Münstereifel, where I went to school for 9 years and spent a lot of my free time, where I met with friends and had my first job.
It’s Erftstadt, 4 miles from where my sister and her family lives. They haven’t had electricity for about 24hours, weren’t sure if they would be evacuated or not, and aren’t able to get in and out of their town.
It’s Gemünd, the very corner of where my grandmother lives. Her home was flooded up into the 2nd floor and there is nothing left now.
Many people have lost their lives, others lost their loved ones and their homes, more than a 1000 people are still missing from the flooded areas in Belgium and Germany, cleaning up and rebuilding will takes years.
… and in all that some politicians tell us to not „instrumentalize this situation“ for the climate debate - because moments like this are actual dead proof for what they try to ignore and this they don’t want to be told. Everyday they ridicule climate scientists and activists but once reality shoves it back into their throats they don’t want to hear the „told you so!“
I’d like to hit them with the bricks of collapsed buildings soooooo hard!
