Watched Project Hail Mary and came away with a lot but the one that hurt me the most was that Stratt and Grace whether in a platonic romantic or a secret third thing way were definitely madly in love and their arc rivals that of a fucking Shakespearean tragedy.

i fricking love this relationship between Stratt and Grace in the movie, it's just so, they have this kind of of respect for each other and despite how different they may be, they're still able to connect somehow, and i just wish they had more time, they could have been buddies(maybe) 😭😭😭

i think it’s notable that in project hail mary (movie) when grace is told by stratt that he will be going to space, and she sees him panicking while the team to put him in a coma enters, she says something like: “it will be safer for you if we induce your coma earlier.” which makes me wonder if she specifically chose him to survive over the other two knowing when they would go into a coma later, it wouldn’t work. i did see how in the book he has a certain coma resistant gene, but since the movie didn’t address this detail, it’s intriguing how they made it sound like the timing of his induction made a difference. thoughts?

Sending Grace wasn't the only option. Everything Stratt did was not the only option. It was, however, the option made by the person who had the most information possible about the situation with a shrinking deadline. It was clear that it wasn't just the sun's heat diminishing that was on a timeline, but the cooperation between nations. She had to work as fast as possible before more and more resources were pulled as nations hunkered down to protect their natural resources or start battles to secure the most resources for a long winter. That requires a person who can make resolute decisions, live with them as flawed as they are, and pivot when more information comes for a better advancement.

I find her so interesting. I'll never say she had no other choice. There are so many options, but that doesn't change that a choice had to be made and she made the one she thought best as the most informed person in the room.
