The Outsiders Event Program ☀️

Y’all I got surprised with this in the mail. It finally came in and I’m so excited to see what’s inside. ♥︎ it even came with a small photo of the gang. Couldn’t attend but got me a little piece of that awesome event!

On this date in 1902 the parades and costume ball that were the grand finale of Saratoga’s Floral Fete celebration took place. The Floral Fetes started in 1893 out of a concern for the need for “more attractive and refined entertainment” to help Saratoga continue to flourish. In 1902, according to this program, 20 floats from the Proteus pageant at Mardi Gras were purchased for an illuminated parade through Saratoga.

Live From Mars — Programs and Event Documentation

Mars Gallery, Chicago — March 22, 2003 and July 12, 2003 Poetry Center of Chicago

These materials document two installments of the Live From Mars reading series held at Mars Gallery in Chicago in 2003.

The white Poetry Center letterhead sheet served as the public program for the March 22, 2003 Live From Mars IV event and was used by KC Clarke while emceeing the event. Handwritten notes reflect live sequencing and coordination during the performance.

The yellow program (front and back) is for Live From Mars V, held July 12, 2003. This marked the first installment of the series to use a formally designed printed program.

These events brought the Poetry Center’s programming into gallery space, presenting poets and performers outside its primary institutional venues at the Art Institute of Chicago and the School of the Art Institute ballroom. The poetry dance component of these evenings is referenced in contemporaneous correspondence between KC Clarke and Lawrence Ferlinghetti preserved elsewhere in this archive.

Event program - Origami Extravaganza, 2016

This event program was designed in-house at the Morikami Museum for the Origami Extravaganza and Palm Beach Library’s Families Reading Together Kickoff event. The event branding was also carried over into social media graphics and a t-shirt design featuring the mascot, Dewey the Library Owl.
