Gabriel remained physically at John’s side, but his mind was elsewhere - literally. The telepath had offered to relay Gabe to someone he wanted to connect to, and after several long minutes of careful deliberation, the conclusion had been reached that the least likely to be dangerously distracted by the uninvited incursion was Jared. He drew his knees up and rested his head on them, focusing entirely on the connection that had been made for him.
It was disorienting, at first. He didn’t know how the telepath did this with everyone he met, and some he didn’t. Jared’s mind, when Gabe finally touched it, was bright, which sort of made sense; the winged man had always thought the official was lighter than others thought. Jared, it’s Gabriel. There’s this telepath - but are you okay? Staying -
If it was possible to withdraw in surprise, Gabe had done so. He’d let himself see Jared’s primary thoughts and recoiled out of shock, sitting up a little near John. He swallowed, muttered “Sorry, my fault,” and settled back into it again, peering more slowly this time. Jared? You’re thinking very hard about sunlight and healing.
