@fira211 What are Canadian smarties please
Like M&Ms but with more crunch!
No, but actually. They really are. Canadian Smarties are quite similar to M&Ms but they’re flatter and have a thicker outside shell (they cronch). They’re made by Nestle (M&Ms are made by Mars).
What Americans call ‘Smarties’, Canada calls ‘Rockets’, and I call ‘MINE ALL MINE’. They’re the same candy, they were just branded differently in Canada because Smarties already existed here.
Why do I know all this? BECAUSE MY CHILDHOOD WAS FULL OF DECEPTION... ... ... But nah fam, half my family is American and half is Canadian so I had an interesting time getting candy as a kid (I don’t care for either M&Ms or chocolate Smarties, gimme my freaking chalk rolls... crack in a tube... whatever... gimme.)
Radio Interview with Avril Lavigne
Interviewer: What about your boy scenario? You got one?
Avril: Boys are stupid.
Interviewer: Boys are stu-
Avril: THROW ROCKS AT THEM
Fira. What the ever loving HELL is that "Don't Put It In Your Mouth" PSA? That would've traumatized the hell out of me as a kid. I'm pretty traumatized NOW.
I... I’m sorry. I have no explanations. It was pretty traumatizing but it got amusing when I was a teen to make dirty innuendo about it? Then when you hit your 20s it’s just that weird commercial with the singing puppets that totally isn’t about sex. Nope, not at all.
(Actually tbh, I watched it as a kid without really thinking too much about it. It wasn’t until I saw it again as a teen that I sort of stared in horror realizing that this thing I thought was completely normal for years was actually eldritch-horror levels of wtf. Sort of like the minute you start understanding the dirty jokes in Animaniacs.
Honestly, the Canadian PSA About Drugs freaked me out way more. Warnings for super creepy tweaked out puppet eyes. That commercial still freaks me out.)
So this doesn’t apply to me since I’m Can-US but I thought I should let people know (since I just found out myself) that Canada will no longer allow dual-citizens to leave or re-enter the country on a plane without a Canadian passport or Canadian Visa (exceptions for Can-US citizens).
It’s apparently due to their new electronic system. It only applies to flights? And American passports are somehow okay?
It seems like a stupid fucking rule (especially considering how expensive passports are and the waiting period jumped because apparently the government didn’t think to prepare for the influx of applications and can’t you just program the new system to account for this?) but what do I know.
PASSPORTS ARE $120-160. MOST PEOPLE DON’T HAVE THAT KIND OF CASH. My god there’s a *reason* I’ve been using my US passport for the last two years and it’s not because I don’t want to do the paperwork.
(By the by, there are some exceptions being made for flights until January but yeah, watch yourselves guys <3)

I got to explain bagged milk to coworkers today
Oh, did you live someplace they did the milk bag thing? I understand it’s not pan-canada.
I just looked this up. I didn’t realize it was a mostly Eastern Canada thing!
Anyway, yup! Born and raised in Ontario! The summer I went to my grandma’s here in Michigan and they had gallon milk and I was like... 10? And all I could think was “how the hell do kids make their own cereal? I can’t lift this!” And then I was frustrated about not being independent. (I didn’t spill a lot of milk, but I spilled enough)
Gallon milk is heavy af to a kid fyi. If you live in places with gallon milk, please do a favour and put it in small containers for your kids to pour.

I'm so alone... and i was almost stuck in Canada... conversation starter, everything is Canada fandome!
