"Casper Octopus in the Deep Sea of the Cook Islands
Our Corps of Exploration witnessed this Casper octopod from the suborder Incirrata while exploring a series of knoll hills in the central region of the Cook Islands' waters. Using the ROV Little Hercules, we were diving over 4,100 meters (13,000+ feet) deep when we spotted this roaming cephalopod, still mostly unknown to scientists. With an arm span less than 20 centimeters, this petite white or violet octopus was nicknamed Casper when first spotted in 2016, more than 3,000 miles north in the Hawaiian Islands. While no formal species name has yet been given to these animals (as no specimens have been collected), scientists estimate that Casper octopods may be the deepest-dwelling octopus species that lacks fins." - nautiluslive.org
Just watching my fave ocean floor mapping stream
They were talking about remains and some how I just forgot that things eat bones.
Like I was assuming bones were just there. They turn into fossils right? WRONG
Apparently there are a lot of animals that eats bones as well not just fungus and such
How fucking wild that the only fossils we have are the one that didn’t get eaten
Sometimes in the normal assumptions we lose the wonder of life

Endless Deep Sea Gifs
A couple weeks ago the EV Nautilus ROV's came disconnected from the ship, and they had to mount a rescue mission.
Video from that mission got published and I'm so glad because we get to see them tape a knife to a different ROV and send it down to cut the safety cable connecting two robots, and then used a robot-mounted bandsaw to cut the primary cable. Effervescent.
If you want more details on the rescue, there's a blog post here:
