Buongiorno Munny,
I loved X-Men evolution back when I watched it in my childhood but I never understood some of the criticism made by the fandom about the way rogue and nightcrawler's relationship was portrayed. You know they used to say the reveal of mystique being rogue's foster mother was weak because it really doesn't mean much and it would have been better if she was revealed to be her biological mother so her and kurt could be half siblings
It would cheapen the whole dynamic if the writers did that honestly because I think people forget that prior to this reveal what we knew about mystique, rogue and nightcrawler is surrounded in the theme of adoption :
nightcrawler was abandoned by his birth mother and adopted
rogue was an orphan who was adopted by irene adler (destiny) whom she saw as her guardian
Both of rogue and nightcrawler were adopted children and this aspect between them was important because otherwise rogue wouldn't have been able to reach out to nightcrawler in the shadowed past episode
Meanwhile on mystique's side, she abandoned her biological son, let him be adopted by humans and seemed hyperfixated on this girl (rogue) to the point of creating a whole persona to be her friend and guide in her late teens
The reveal of mystique being rogue's foster mother who didn't even raise her does three things,
It highlight the adoption theme between nightcrawler and rogue because who cares if mystique adopted rogue only to use her, nightcrawler is going to be there for her as her little brother and be a sibling to her from now on
It completely shatters rogue's view on all of her past because she now knows irene, her guardian and only resemblance of familiar stability, was leading her on from the start as a groomer and enabling mystique, her present day groomer and abuser, so she can use her
It reveals mystique has a track record of abandoning children and had actually moved on from abandoning nightcrawler as she adopted someone right after only to abandon them too
HI nonny.
People were upset about that??? REALLY? Because it shows me how people view adoption as an accessory and not a legit form of making a family. As you mentioned, it works perfectly with Kurt and Rogue as it shows a pattern. Raven is a bad mom with her adopted and bio kid.
It cements Rogue as his sister even if they dont share blood.
I find strange how people dont see adopted kids as real family, real life or fictional. "Its not incest, he is kissing his adopted SISTER" Buddy, it is. The word sister is lacted here for a good reason. That excuse the Kurt stans use to explain why Kurt is a siscon.
Back to the EVO Kurt and Rogue, they are the best versions of Nightcrawler and Rogue.
