Hello Everyone, Ken the Karmi here! Happy Friday Everyone! . . . This week I wanted to focus on body mechanics of the twist with a simple how-to guide. I chose the Crescent Lunge (Anjaneyasana) to Revolving Crescent lunge (Parivrtta Alanaasana) sequence. . . . Thanks to @evolutionpoweryoga teacher @lindseapop for being my model! . . . Step 1 - square your hips and lunge your raised leg forward to your hands, sweeping up on the inhale into crescent lunge. On the exhale, bring your hands to namaste at your heart center. Take a deep breathe in. . . . Step 2 - Exhale and spin your left arm to the outside of your right thigh, coming into Revolving Crescent Lunge. Hold for five breaths. . . . It's that easy folks! You did it! Practice makes perfect! . . . Next post I will get even more in-depth with building blocks and alignment of the pose. . . . Happy Saturday my fellow yogis! Ken the karmi here! Following up with my last post about relaxing with what is. Taking action with this post. I drive all over the state of Pennsylvania as part of my day job and happen to pass by this lovely spot once a week. This week I allowed my self to take pause, and do something for myself. I hiked down to a familiar place, Dutchman Falls, and practiced being present, in a most surreal place! Practice makes perfect, but it doesn't come easy. Being present for me comes with challenges. I just wanted to keep my eyes open to make sure no animals snuck up behind me, or people watching and thinking what is he doing, etc. So I tried to keep my brain as quiet as possible. If thoughts arose, I watched them as if they were a passing car. Next, tune in with the body, find peace within and focus on the breath. As time passed, I slipped into a peaceful place. I could have stayed for hours. Life goes on and so did the rest of the day. A beautiful reminder that you CAN make time for yourself and should every day. Even if for 5 minutes. Hello Everyone, Ken the Karmi here! I just wanted to say thank you to everyone of you for all the positive feedback! This really helps me stay motivated to send positive deep-rooted wisdom each week! This week is all about sitting with what is, not trying to control everything around you and just being present. It's one thing to say it, but to live it is another, and in my opinion not the easiest thing to do. Thich Nhat Hanh once said, "Sit just to enjoy your sitting, you don't need to attain any goal". So many of us, including myself, are so busy in our daily lives that it really takes a moment to realize that we hardly ever sit still. To be present and relax with what is. If you do, it feels almost foreign because we feel like we should be doing something, being productive, executing. Well this week, I encourage you to sit, just to sit. Sit and feel what its like to be present, while not accomplishing anything but to be present. Allow thoughts to come and go, and just be. Try that a few times a week and see how much better and relaxed you feel. After taking Lisa's class, we were pretty much exhausted, which instills the power of yoga. We didn't have any energy left, which created an incredible feeling of relaxation and grounding. So, as depicted, we just sat and remained present, happy and fulfilled. A profound experience, yet so simple. I think a lot of us can relate to something that we feel we must do in our lifetimes to feel fulfillment. That feeling inside that can be itched but isn't really satisfied. What could it be? To be successful in business, relationships, or just plain happiness? That urge to be the best you can in your current environment, whatever that may look like. There are a lot of distractions in this life that may easily sway us from the right and left, from really getting to the very thing we sought after. Sometimes, what you really need is to look within, take responsibility for your own path and completely shift your life inside and out. Once you can see the truth behind health and wellness, is when you realize what yoga can do. It challenges our bodies, helps unblock emotional energy, clears our mind and helps us to live better inside and out. What is the purpose of learning and engaging with other humans, if not to shift your vision in some way? When I first started to do yoga, I looked at it as a workout, that makes you sweat and by the end of class, I felt pretty amazing. Its been 1.5 years of Evolution Power Yoga at the Harrisburg, PA studio and I keep learning. Not only about becoming more aware of what's going on inside of me but about how we are all connected. Yoga is something that is pretty profound. You learn about breathe work and poses that allow energy to flow through your body like a temple. But it doesn't end there, it affects everything around you as well. Taking that positive energy flow into the world has profound meaning and joy on everything you encounter. Yoga has taught me that. There is so much more to learn. Starting the new year off with yoga, lots and lots of yoga. @evolutionpoweryoga offers options to help participate in the community, such as being a Karmi. My job as a karmi is to participate in yoga classes as much as possible, while capturing some candid moments along the way. Like this one!
