Expectations VS Reality

The days seemed to pass by only too quickly with Talia’s arrival in London. It felt as if it were only yesterday when he opened the door to his tiny, shoddy little flat in Twickenham to find her throning his couch and surrounded by all her luggages.
Her presence alone lifted the air and gave his home a new kind of meaning, with the spicy scents of her cooking, the cleanliness of the living room and a feminine touch by the bed.
There was now always food in the larder. The cushions were fluffed, the floor swept and the carpet they nicked from Strawberry Hill Mansion replaced the old one by the tele. Pantyhose hung to dry in the bathroom, a hairbrush and various lipsticks littered the bedside stand. Fresh flowers adorned the table but that was John’s own doing, simply because he wanted to make just a little bit of effort for her.
They had spent the last few days mostly in bed, unable to get their hands off each other for more than two hours at a time. Sometimes they would talk late into the night, other times they’d lounge by the stolen carpet and have dinner on the floor.
One of the afternoons, Talia had insisted on cleaning up the mildew on the walls and so with great reluctance, John acceded to her demands and they scrubbed and painted and the living room was almost as good as new, just in time for the game that evening, which John most certainly did not forget to invite Chas over for.
The cabbie was pleasantly surprised by the fresh state of John’s apartment, to the point where he was convinced it was all a dream.
Three boxes of pizza and two six-packs later, both men had yelled their throats hoarse at the terrible performance Chelsea had against Man U. It was late and Chas was about to help clean up but he received an urgent phone call, his new long-term client by the name of April, or May-something, and excused himself in a hurry.
John wasn’t too bothered. He’ll pick up after himself later. He had too much to drink, his head was spinning, and the game was just atrocious that night.
Absolutely horrendous.
