i like how mormons think that the sole problem people (ex-mormons specifically) have with the church is the factual inaccuracies and anachronisms in the BoM, and that if they can somehow debunk those criticisms we’ll all suddenly realize how silly we were being and come crawling back with our testimonies restored. like you could get every historian and archeologist to back you up and it’s still not gonna change the fact that your church is a greedy, dishonest, parasitic cult that’s left me with irreversible trauma

Surprisingly, I still haven't read the CES letter. You would think I would have read it by now, right? Yet I haven't, and it wasn't a factor in me leaving the church. In fact, I stopped believing in 2013. Well, that was when I finally admitted that any remaining "belief" I still had was really just fear, and not belief, anyway. I don't know if the CES letter had come out yet, but I don't think it had? I've only heard of it in the last few years. I think I'll give it a read sometime.

An ExMormon Spotify Playlist (Props to @saintsandsuicide and @bpdzhanna for their similarly-themed playlists here and here.)

I got inspired to make a Spotify playlist from all the music I’ve listened to that give me that ExMo vibe. It starts off pretty dark and gets a lot more light-hearted/hopeful/empowering by the end. And since I wouldn’t be where I am without learning to find the humor in it, there’s some comedy in the middle to poke fun at cult absurdities. Aka there’s lots of genre variation because I have a weird taste in music and can never keep my playlists short.

the only time i bothered to read the scriptures is when i was forced to when i was like eight. you know what’s really confused me about them? how one chapter could be saying like “Heavenly Father Loves All His Children And Forgives Their Sins” and the next says through some story how “Heavenly Father Brought Down A Plague Of Eternal Damnation On The Wicked” because he could somehow deem them unworthy of forgiveness even though they were still ‘his children’.

like????????? as an eight year old kid, I was thinking, “wow i feel like he could have handled that better but whatever he’s 'perfect’ and we 'shouldn’t question that’”

you know i don’t want to go to church. the only reason i still go at all is because you won’t take no for an answer. you think things will change if you make me fake it long enough. i’m so tired of feeling ignored and disrespected, i know what you think is best for me but i disagree. i don’t want to be part of the church, it’s not something i believe in and my continued involvement against my will is a source of stress. if i have to, i’ll put myself together and go late today but just know that i cannot be happy. the church does not give me any kind of happiness.
