Alchemists: are humans charged with helping Moroi and dhampirs keep their existence discreet.
DAU | Drabble/Headcanon
Three times in her nineteen year old life Meredith had looked death in the eye. The first time was in a barely remembered real-life nightmare. The night her father had first assaulted her home and taken her brother, having wanted to take her as well to one day turn into monsters, Strigoi.
The second was the night one of her best friends and boyfriend had been brutally taken from her in the Battle of Fells Church. By all accounts she should of died that night but her father and Alaric held other plans, one wanting to taunt her with information of her brother and the other getting in the way of Strigoi set to murder her only to die himself.
And thirdly, the night her father returned, set on murdering her, her newly returned brother, and her mother and step-father. He'd already murdered countless people and she had put up a worthy fight, her brother at her side. Even with Dhampir healing bruises various other injuries, a broken arm included, had appeared in various news clippings about the incident over the last two weeks. The cast was off now, but some lasting injuries remained. She should of died and yet somehow her and her brother had managed to overcome their father.
Less then two years ago Meredith had thought she was human and the most dramatic thing about her life was reigning in Elena's lust for Queen Bee status at their high school. Now, the body count had only risen and she had killed her father.
When had this become her world? Did she want this to be her world? Was it even a choice anymore?
The truth of the matter was it wasn't. Even if she could find a way to justify leaving her friends, her brother behind to run off somewhere where death wasn't behind every corner, it was a part of her. She had a choice when she discovered what she was, when she discovered the hidden truth. Alaric had told her if she began to train with him there would be no going back to mall trips and sleepovers, to normal life. And he had been right.
Gone was the calm and collected girl. Gone was innocence and in her place had risen a girl determined to be stronger, whom had agreed to train with a Guardian, and whom wanted vengeance against every Strigoi she would ever come across from this day forth. Anger had beat through her becoming a predominant emotion. It was a dangerous path, a path that could lead to her destruction if she wasn't careful and if her anger wasn't focused or balanced by other emotions.
But in this moment, in the aftermath of everything that had happened in the last few weeks, her mind wasn't clear, it wasn't rational because the darkness of the supernatural world had consumed her.
