How long had it been? A year or so?

Keeping in touch via phone was one thing, but physically being in one's company was another. Laura carried herself with a confidence and pride that had been absent not that long ago, a far cry from the wounded, lost young woman Remy had taken under his wing.

"Well look'it you," Remy grinned big, holding his arms out wide to invite her in for a hug, "c'mon bring it in! I skipped de cologne today."

Remy hadn’t set foot in a church for what seemed like forever.

Two devils—ironic how the one who more resembled the caricature was the one who felt most at home in this place. Just being here brought many people peace and sanctuary, yet here he was amazed he hadn’t spontaneously combusted once his boot stepped over the threshold. It was almost suffocating really, having to constantly remind himself to relax.
