So many ways to say, "I love you"
My wife runs an independent business selling children's books at school book fairs and libraries.
One of the most time consuming aspects of the job is updating her inventory after a big event ends or a large shipment of new books comes in.
In the past, I would do my best to help with this by setting a couple evenings aside where she and I could sit down together to tackle the inventory as a team. She would call out book titles and quantities, and I would have a spreadsheet open on her laptop to search for those titles and enter in the numbers.
Last night I figured out that by connecting her barcode scanner to our family computer, we could input individual SKU numbers into a separate sheet of the spreadsheet. After that, all I needed to do was use the "COUNTIF" function in the item count column to count the number of instances for each specific SKU number on the other sheet.
And BLAMMO!! Inventory updating with just a quick scan of each book's barcode!
When I came home for lunch today, my wife told me she had completed updating all 754 books in her inventory in just 45 minutes! (As opposed to the several hours it would have taken us before.) And I can't even begin to tell you how thrilled I am that it worked for my Sweetheart like I hoped!
What is my point here? (Other than nerdy bragging?)
I guess I just think it's important to understand that sometimes love looks like a bed covered in rose petals or dinner at a fancy restaurant. Other times it looks like a barcode scanner and a super geeky spreadsheet.
And there's room in this world for all of it.
