Starting a task for me is not like a staircase to a goal, but with the goal behind a brick wall.
All I can see from where I am is the fact there's a wall there and I need to somehow remove it to complete the task. So I go through any or all of these problems in how to begin to dismantle this wall:
• I don't know how thick this wall is. Is it 1, 2, 3 or more bricks thick? That would take a really long time to get through. So I won't start it now because I don't know how long it will take me and I could get too deep in and unable to finish.
• I don't know how to remove one brick, so I won't do it now, because the amount of energy I put into removing one brick might be all I can manage, and I can't just take one brick away and leave it, what if the wall then crashes on me and I can't get out? I then won't be able to remove any bricks!
• I don't think I have the equipment to remove these bricks, what if its a mix of materials and I need a drill? I'll come back when I have everything I might possibly need, then I can do it all in one go! But by then I've taken too long gathering materials and information that the wall just gets bigger or more difficult to remove.
• Sometimes I manage to remove a brick by being super strong and being in perfect time and mental conditions to do it. And that's great! I removed loads of bricks now! Everyone saw I could remove these bricks and assume I'm able to remove the rest. But I can't rely on my super strength because just like adrenaline I never get to control when it happens. So now I'm surrounded by the bricks I managed to remove and feel stupid about not being able to remove all the others just like I did last time.
And then when I finally somehow manage to remove all the bricks, I'm so exhausted and lie down on the ground, but in front of me a little further ahead, I can see another brick wall, yet everyone around me looks at me lying down at the goal and doesn't see any wall at all, because I just got rid of it and says "Why are you lying on the floor? It's not that hard! Don't be so lazy, get up and do the next task!"
