What are some of the differences between the Community of Christ and the LDS?

Here are some basic differences-

Marriage- in the lds church it is only straight couples who can get married in the temple. In Community of Christ, ever since 2013, queer couples can get married at church.

Ordination- Women can’t get ordained to priesthood in the lds church. Ever since 1984, in Community Of Christ women have been able to be ordained to priesthood. (In fact, almost half of the council of twelve are women). Also queer people can be ordained too in Community Of Christ.

Temples- in the lds church, this is where you go to worship in Sundays. In the Community of Christ, there’s two temples- kirtland which is a historic site, and the one in independence which is the international headquarters of the denomination and is Where world conference is held every three years.

The LDS Doctorine & Covenants goes up to section 108. Community of Christ D&C goes up to section 164.

The LDS puts much more value and emphasis on the Book of Mormon than Community Of Christ does. The Book of Mormon is still one of the scriptures yeah, but it’s not anywhere near as important as the Bible for Community Of Christ.

The hymnals are different.

The ideas about salvation and heaven are different too. Community of Christ puts a lot more emphasis on building Zion in the here and now- in other words, less emphasis on ‘being perfect’ more emphasis on activism, helping the poor, etc.

Also, Community Of Christ people don’t usually go on missions.

That’s all the basic differences I can think of right now off the top of my head.

Oh and also LDS people tend to call Community Of Christ ‘Emma’s church’ because Emma Smith stayed behind in Nauvoo after everyone else went west, and she and her son helped found Community Of Christ.

Sorry this post is so long(the two churches are very very different, so I couldn’t mention every single way they are different, but those are the basics).

Me pulling into my parents driveway after work to see 2 missionaries talking to my dad.

Me knowing that the hours and hours of work I spent getting my dad to understand how painful growing up in the church was for me will have to be repeated because they made him feel light and fluffy for 30 minutes

I've gotten to the point where tuning in can be therapeutic because I can connect with PIMOs and EXMOs online during conference, but I also just realized I haven't had to watch it for 15 years

(Not that people haven't asked, but I don't have to and that is awesome.)
