My friend telling me she couldn’t finish Educated by Tara Westover because of the severe avoidance of doctors

Me trying to pretend I am also shocked by this and NOT that I’m shocked she’s disturbed by it

I do get kind of concerned sometimes, about Mr. C avoiding medical and dental stuff even more than I have needed to. Especially after the cracked tooth episode, where he was actually asking for ibuprofen (he never takes anything) but then insisted it magically got better on its own. I wouldn’t be surprised if that abscesses too, eventually. :/

But, it’s his tooth and his body. And he has his own reasons. I appreciate not getting pushed and nagged, so I am not about to do that to him either.

Though, I was still kind of relieved when it looked like Previous Job was taking us to the US, and as part of the visa application process they made him have a thorough physical with stress EKG and everything. (Plus vaccinations for basically everything, because you don’t want all those filthy foreign diseases carried in. Including from Sweden and the UK…)

I mean, those requirements are ludicrous wherever anybody is coming from, and I’m still glad immigration didn’t require anything like that here. But, I was still glad he got a totally clean bill of health, since that was his only doctor visit in who knows how long. And he just turned 45.

I’m getting old here, and he’s older. But, at least he’s healthy as a horse overall in spite of never going to the doctor. Doing better than I have been.
