A couple card designs based on one I made for my grandpa a while back. He's a retired engineer, a lifelong tinkerer, and holds a few patents. The design is based on exploded diagrams, which are frequently found in patent drawings, manuals for machinery, and the like. They give me a feeling really similar to cutaway illustrations, which I always loved as a kid (and still do!) -- getting to peek at how something is put together, in a way that makes all the parts distinct from each other.

These are available as print-at-home cards in my Etsy shop, and I'll be adding printed ones available for shipping soon. So, keep me in mind for all your engineer/industrial designer/architect/patent lawyer/diagram-loving friends and family birthdays. 😘

developing studies into object components. these are not technically speaking ‘found objects’; in the same respect as the lighter and wingnuts, as they were from a flea market, but are however comprised of small metal parts much like those found in my garage.

further development into items found on the street. this time a disposable lighter, drawing on the idea of ephemera and that which  lasts for only a short time.  also examining my previous study into small components (wingnuts, screws and bolts) by emulating an exploded diagram. here the lighter is taken apart and displayed on the page are the pieces which the lighter is comprised of.
