Obviously, the way he punches throw that 4th wall is A+. Another thing would be how protective he is. He’s shown to be very protective of both Simon and Evelyn while also showing that he really cares about Diath and Strix.

least favorite thing about them

I know I should say his drinking problem, but I don’t hate that as much as his stalling. He stalls on everything-- feelings, parenting, relationships, taking action. I understand it’s easy to do nothing and forget (I’ve been doing that my whole life) but a lot of times where he stalled bad shit happened. I mean, it took them this long to teach sign language to Simon? That’s just on the things I can think of right now.

Update 2023: I 100% SHIP PAULTIN & EVELYN. Not necessarily Nate & Anna. Just their characters. The family dynamic kills me to this day.

I don’t have a notp for Paultin. I love seeing his and Evelyn’s interactions whenever Chris makes a character that’ll hit on them. Plus, the reactions of chat is great.

I personally don’t makeup headcanons or theories or stuff like that. Theories are always cool but I tend to stay away from headcanon stuff.

unpopular opinion

Not sure if this unpopular but I don’t see it talked about in tags and I’m not on the reddit as much so idk, but I personally would like to see a Paultin that takes after Strahd or one that kept the ring of winter. Not really an evil!Paultin but one with this ring or vampire powers and controls it really well to be a part of and care about the party enough to still help them.

I definitely wanna know more about the Pokemon au because it sounds rad... uh... like how did they get their pokemon? When did they become trainers? Like was it just a thing they did like in the original pokemkn lore or was there a specific reason for each of them? I'm interested

Okay, so, in order:

I’ve just answered another ask about them meeting their pokemon but the process for each of them can be roughly summarised asDiath: Accidental Baby Pokemon Acquisition. They pretty much all chose him rather than the other way around.Evelyn: It Was Approximately 50% A Paladin Training Thing and 50% *gestures at her canonical pet adoption* Her Doing ThatStrix: *gestures at her pet adoption in canon* She Did That Over The Course Of Many YearsPaultin: he doesn’t know and neither do i (this is a lie, I know exactly how each of those pokemon ended up with him)

There’s specific backstories for each individual pokemon though so if you’re curious about more specific scenarios I can also answer those

This pokemon au doesn’t strictly have trainers as a concept (that was in another recent ask) but if we define “trainer” as “someone who owns a pokemon” then Evelyn at five/six, Strix at ten, Diath at fifteen, and Paultin at ??? (*coughs* four. He was four)

They’re still all adventurers as in DCA canon but, continuing to define “trainer” as “someone with a pokemon”, yes! There were individual reasons they each came to have their first pokemon!

Diath got his first pokemon the latest out of the crew because he never really intended to get any. Feeding himself was hard enough without having another life on his shoulders, y’know? But then one day, someone just... dropped a pokeball with a klefki in it in his lap and He Now Had A Pokemon.

Paultin, in contrast, got his pokemon the youngest out of the group. It was his chatot and she was the result of his mother’s chatot and one of his father’s pokemon (either another chatot or a different bird, I haven’t decided yet). She wasn’t strictly officially his until there was nobody else to care for her after Van Richten’s attack, but that she’d be his once he was actually old enough was always the intention.

Strix got Stinky, in this universe an alolan ratatta, pretty much exactly how Strix got Stinky in canon. Namely, she was shown him by Reader and immediately extremely enamoured and more or less went “mine now.” (Despite this, I don’t have the slightest inkling as to what the TitB gang are up to in this AU. Not in the least. I know that they exist but beyond that [shrug])

Evelyn’s first pokemon was Morning Glory and she was a ponyta bred in Amphail (which is known for horse pokemon in this AU just like it’s known for horses in canon) who went with her when she went to the Spires to begin her training.

I genuinely worry that with everyone not listening to him, again, that at some point Paultin may actually leave. I mean I dont think itll happen but I still worry. They tend to completely disregard everything he says

Urk, I know. Which is tricky bc nine times out of ten the things he says are meant to be disregarded, so when he’s actually saying something real and trying to make a point and his friends disregard that, too...yikes. These kids are trying so hard but they’re still so bad at communicating with each other and it’s nerve-wracking. Paultin wouldn’t even be wrong for leaving. I disagree with most of what he said but especially with Strix yelling over the top of him and watching the very guy he’s trying to help reject that help...ouch. 420% Done indeed, Paultin.
