TW: Not allowed to leave, medical restraints, mental instability/extreme fear
Civilian isn't doing well." Nurse pulled Hero aside.
"What do you mean? I thought they were doing better; what happened?"
"Well... physically, they are doing much better. Their face is pretty much completely healed— their back is looking good too— but... Their mental state is fractured. They're anxious— terrified." When Hero didn't answer, Nurse continued. "We have to keep them sedated or restrained when they're not. They're trying to rip out their IV and leave."
Hero thought for a moment. "Are they well enough to leave? Physically?"
"Yes, but they're nowhere near mentally stable enough."
"Could they go out if they were under close supervision?"
Nurse hesitated. "I... I think it would be risky."
"They're not a prisoner." Hero reminded. "We don't have the right to take their freedom. If they are physically able to leave, I think we should at least take them outside for a bit. When I've been with them thus far, they basically just beg to leave the entire time."
"So you want to take them outside of the base..?"
"Yes. I'll make time after I'm done today to take them."
"How do you plan to keep them from running?"
"We can go to a more private location than a public park or something. Maybe even stay on the property. That way I can better watch over them."
"You're going to have to be extremely patient and gentle. If you try to use force or you allow yourself to become visibly irritated, you run the risk of damaging their mental state further."
Hero nodded. "Of course. I'll be careful."
—
"Civilian?" Hero pushed open the door to the medical wing, then pulled open the curtains around Civilian's bed.
Civilian's face was wet with tears. They started to tremble as Hero approached their bedside, pulling fearfully against the restraints on their wrists.
"Hey, it's okay. One of the nurses is going to come and unhook your IVs. Do you want to go for a walk outside?"
Civilian hesitated. "A-are you going to let me go..?"
"Um... not yet. You're still not well. But I thought it would be good for you to get some fresh air." Hero offered a soft smile as they sat by the bed.
"I want to go h-home..."
"I know, but you can't yet. The doctors can't release you in good conscience— they actually don't even think it's a good idea to take you outside, but I insisted." Hero's smile faltered. "You're going to have to promise not to try and run. I don't want to have to stop you, but if you try to run away, I will."
Civilian closed their eyes, taking a shaky breath. "I won't try to run..." I'm far too scared of you to risk making you angry.
