having an introverted friend is like having a particularly skittish foster kitten where you cant move to much or else it’ll run and you won’t see it for a week
Me:(in suuuuuper quiet calm voice, leaning carefully in front of a cave) ohh, pspspsp, baby it’s ok… wanna treat? Wanna treat treat?
(Holds up their favorite character)
Introvert: (crawls out of a hole in the ground, shaking) sniff sniff sniff sniff
Me: yeah, there you go…. You like your lil guy? (Shakes the character a bit to quick)
Introvert: (yells and hides back in their lil hole)
Me: sighhhhhhh
The suffering of being an autistic extrovert. Because I often have the following situation, especially when it comes to events with a lot of people attending.
My extroversion: "HURRAY! I AM WITH PEOPLE! LET ME INTERACT WITH PEOPLE! ENERGY!!!"
My autism: "Alright, we are NOW overwhelmed. Go into shutdown mode!"
Okay so whatever, there are plushies and body pillows and having a pet for people who like to hug stuff. But if.... you are the one who needs to be hugged but there is no access to a person in your life. What then.
Do you ever have one of those days where you feel like you’re annoying everyone - online and in person alike - and people are, at best, tolerating you? That’s me even more than usual today.
I try to be supportive and helpful and giving with my time and energy and people are happy to take that, but then when I want or need people’s time or energy it’s just 😬 and weird excuses or ignoring me until after. It’s getting to me today.
(This brought to you by the half dozen times yesterday that no one noticed when I just faded out a story after realizing no one was listening.)
Being a kind of unpopular extrovert is weird
I remember visiting the extrovert tag once and it was just introvert posting about how we are all annoying and should shut up and like...
You know we aren't all the popular girl or boy at your high school?
I've been told all my life that I am too loud or talk too much. You think that people who does that are always confident and it's ok to be shitty to them?
And you all talk like you should be kind to other until you revert back to an annoyed kid who think that people you dislike can't possibly have their own issues.
Don't worry, in this day and age, liking to talk is badly seen anyway. We do feel annoyint and like nobody care about what we have to say.
Grow up. It's time to see that we aren't in high school anymore. I shouldn't have to say that on something like this but extroverts have issues too and the world don't "favor" us.
Just got a (probably scam) email asking if I want a job working from home and couldn't stop laughing. If a month of medical leave has taught me anything, it's that a.) I'm poorly suited to being at home, b.) I really love my job, and c.) I can't wait to get back. I think every single anesthesiologist and nurse at the hospital where I've been for ECT has had me pitch them museum memberships at this point. That's how much I've missed being at work.
Everybody talks about the introvert who wants to be invited to events they won’t attend.
But nobody talk about the extrovert who tries to plan something and none of their friends show up.
That shit hurts, man.
