the rookies have a bet on who will be the first to break a bone and it ends up being young but NOT on the ice

it’s while they’re streaming FNAF 4 and the foxy closet jumpscare gets him so bad he punches the wall and breaks his finger

Oh my god this is fucking brilliant

He goes from screaming in fear and flailing to hunched in a ball on the ground still screeching but this time in pain. The rookies do not realise the difference until he looks up, tears in his eyes, and goes, "my fukim finger"

The older cens get the news via a selfie of young getting a cast or smt put on in the background whilst the other three r all posing, its 2AM.

Later when a bit loopy because he's tired and has taken a bit of pain medication Young says smt abt "its always the closet that does this to you"

no no, please get on your soapbox about the rookie's dynamic, I wanna be here all day

i love being enabled

The most important bit about my rookies dynamic is the fact that they all live together from the start, they meet in the 2020 dev camp, make it onto the cens roster and start chanting rookie flat until all four of them have signed the lease - this is the start of a reign of terror that makes living on the floor below them hellish

Holmberg and Lapointe were on the same team together during their college hockey years, theyre long time friends and have a lot of long running bits, one of the main ones is LP responding to every "bet you cant do [x]" by asking if he'll get bergys sisters number if he does

Game night is war night (splatoon 3 league gets toxic immediately and they had to restart their minecraft server five times until they all got the griefing out of their system)

Holmberg is their driver with Luca being their second in command, the battles to get shotgun go hard

Luca and Holmberg chill together a lot a lot, but its like co-play style chilling where hopmberg is doing his own thing and so is luca and they'll occasionally start yapping

Young and Lapointe is the ultimate ragebaiter duo, if they arent trying to annoy eachother then they're turning onto someone else

Young and Holmberg spend a lot of time ripping movies apart together, they'll watch anything and everything with a list and a joint letterboxd, bergy often talks abt the scores whilst young talks abt the cinematography

Sleepovers all the goddam time, their sofa in the living room is a sofa bed for this exact purpose especially since they're all different types of clingy (young goes octopus mode on whoevers closest, lapointe sprawls, holmberg tucks himself up against ppl and luca holds onto whatever limbs end up near him)

On the topic of them meeting at dev camp when they realised how few american + canadian fast food joints made it across the pond to europe they took it upon themselves to introduce luca to as many as possible

They each have a movie franchise they adore (Luca's is the muppets, Young loves HTTYD, LP really likes pitch perfect and Holmberg likes the Rocky movies)(binge rewatches of these franchises are common especially after certain events like the near plane crash, not making playoffs or just particularly bad losses)

Young dared Lapointe to go down the boston cop slide the day before they had a game

They have a list of tv shows theyre not allowed to watch if all of them arent there which include: breaking bad, the lincoln lawyer, futurama and criminal minds

Lapointe watched so much walking dead he started thinking of all buildings in zombie apocalypse survival terms and now whenever they go to a city on roadtrips they make a show of finding a perfect zombie apocalypse survival building

Once when play fighting young got flipped over lapoints shoulder and broke the table

Luca and young are dating and whenever holmberg or Lapointe would burst into their rooms afterwards theyd make a show of covering their eyes

Everyone always underestimates how bitchy luca can be but not lapointe, that boy will gossip with luca an absolute ton

They go out partying far too often to say they're professional athletes, that first pride after they all met was the most hungover they have all ever been

Youngs, Lucas and Lapointes first career fights were against Toronto (young was defending LP after he got hit in the face w a puck and lost a tooth, lucas was when young got checked hard and chipped a tooth and LP was when one of the opposing players fucked w holmberg when he was in net)

Once when cooking one of them randomly started playing national anthems which then devolved into guessing the country based on the language being spoken which then devolved into guess the show/movie based on soundtrack - they got so into it they were deadass screaming and shouting over eachother to guess first

Bowling + arcade days all the time

LP got stuck in a foam pit at a trampoline park and they were all too busy losing their shit laughing at him to help

Their dream is to one day do massive roadtrips around most continents, Young is scared of the australia one becauee they keep threatening to feed him to the spiders

Their fridge is covered in magnets from their travels + photographs, young keeps bemoaning the fact he has to double print for his scrapbook + the fridge

Snowball fights yep yep (Holmberg is the crazy fucker who goes out in a blizzard without a coat and never complains about being cold) (one time the cens woke up to a video of the rookies sledding in the snow that was sent at one am)

Heckling is a love language

Hobbies: Lapointe likes pokemon, wrestling + baking, holmberg likes yoga, hiking and playing the drums, young likes scrapbooking + photography + journaling, luca likes drawing + painting, growing plants and is learning pottery

They have a tiktok where they post videos of their debates during long car rides, the only reason they still have control is because they made a circle of trust to never ever never tell harris the password

Their flat has a random stolen street sign in it that no one is fessing up to have taken

Kekse (luca and youngs cat) is also a massive menace and LP is freaked out by her but she keeps killing any mice before they can become a problem so hes trying to stay chill

They have joint warm-up routines depending on which of them are on the ice (most common variant is Lapointe-Young-Luca which involves a lot of tossing pucks around when someone else is trying to stretch)

They've all kissed at least once either on a dare or drunken "how do you know ur not gay" motive

Luca mentioned being gay to them on Youngs birthday and like 3 days later hit the situationship phase w young

I honestly believe they never stop playfighting. Ever. Or competing about who can lift more etc etc

My favourite hc for them and one that i will always bring up is their matching chess rook tattoos, Lucas is on his hip, Youngs on his ribs, Lapointe’s on his bicep and Holmbergs on his shin

Harris hates when they do this but its an on-going bit that every month they pick a word they have to sneak into their interviews as much as possible and whoever manages the most at the end of the month doesnt have to buy a round next time they go out

Their nicknames for eachother on their gc are just diabolical petnames like baby cakes

Young accidentally charcoaled his salmon one time and has never lived it down since

Everyone has a mugshot of themselves taped to their door and a sign w their name and an insult below it

Luca is the easiest to ragebait of their group (the longest rant they inspired from him is when someone said they believed in the titanic sinking theory)

since i am benevolent (and bored) here i have finally drawn a full line-up of the cens rookies in (most of) their gear,

(yes LP is a victim of the jersey tuck and Luca is one of the few players to rock the white skates whilst they also wear CCM whilst Holmberg and Young wear Baur)

The cens uniform is a mix of what we know it to be based on front covers and descriptions and my own personal preference of the centaurs having a lotta red on their jerseys

hii i love your headcanons!! do you have anymore specifically about the rookie flat??

Im always cooking up more rookie related headcanons >:)

About the general layout of the flat it's a four bedroom with two bathrooms but only one has a shower, its living room and kitchen are seperate but theres an open wall in the kitchen that looks into the living room and the door to the flat is next to the kitchen + bathroom, Lucas room is closest to the entrance and it shares a wall with Youngs room whilst Lapointe and Holmbergs rooms share a wall w eachother

Once every few weeks they do a thing theyve nicknamed "flat cooks" where they pick a dish and try cook it from scratch together

Pizza night was their biggest success so far and the less said abt dumpling night the better (when boiling some they all merged together to form the dumple)(LP ate it and afterwards kept repeating "oh my god i ate that" whenever he saw a picture)

They genuinely love a good movie night, i think the first movie they all watched together in the flat was mama mia and it was lowk before they got a sofa so they were all just sat on the floor crowded around Young's laptop

They got kekse a scratching/climbing post to try stop her from being such a menace but all that did was help her realise climbing skills are transferable and now she climbs up ppls legs to sit on their shoulders

Theres a video of holmberg leap frogging across chairs to get to the kitchen counter to clean his dishes because he thought he saw a rat and didnt wanna risk touching the floor where it was (young is the one who took it and was stood on top of the couch too and holding a mop for defence)

They have rotas stuck to the kitchen door (they r to keep track of whose turn it is to buy bin bags, soap, toilet paper and who needs to take the bin out)

They have a graveyard on top of the fridge and what bottles show up there the most is gin because LP took a mixology class one time and went crazy

Nearly all the furniture is second hand, holmberg and young are facebook market place warriors and luca likes finding trinkets when out so they have a very decorated space

For the first month none of them had bed frames because they were guilting the vets into coming round and helping them build them (it worked)

Their magnet collection is carefully curated (one magnet for every city theyve been to on roadtrips and then whenever one of them go someplace new they bring one back)

Holmberg has the biggest room (for his drums kit and goalie gear) at the cost of his room being the one ppl will kick the door to open just to sit in there and chill w him, hes come back from a hike to everyone else just sat in his room yapping

Half of their glassware are glasses theyve pocketed from bars when on the road, there is also a surprising amount of rainforest cafe stuff in the cupboards

Lapointe has a hat where on the brim he has a tally score of every win and loss of the ottawa centaurs so far, for a while the loss section far outweighed the wins

All four of them tried going golfing w some of the vets one time but got bored immediately and tried to steal the golf cart, they have since been banned from coming along and instead spend their time playing volleyball or basketball

Powerpoint night 👍 (young did his about a tierlist of the best conspiracy theories, luca assigned them all a death from the final destination movies, lapointe outlined their zombie apocalypse survival plan and holmberg talked about how much he fucking hates the cens mascot, it was 50 slides long)

Young made them all in tamodachi life and got mad when in-game luca started crushing on ilya before him

Holmberg hit them with the "hey you guys wanna go get icecream" and then took them on a 3 mile walk to get it

Young played portal 2 blind and didnt realise LP recorded his reaction to the Caroline reveal

They all played fnaf together (on the tv w LP holding the remote whilst the others gave their opinions and also screams)

If their thursdays are all free they have a "shit movie night" current watches are velocipastor, twilight movies, divergents, antman quantumania, the bee movie (the quality ranges from just kinda cringe in some scenes to actually abysmal)

Everything is a hangout opportunity, luca needs to get the prescription on his glasses adjusted? Okay young is going w him even if it means hes just sititng in a chair alone for an hour, LP wants to get groceries in? Alright the rest of them are also coming despire not intending to pick anything up

Icl most of my headcannons revolve around the rookies but i do have a couple general cens ones too 😋

Smt specific is that each rookie has at least one vet player that also plays their position they're close with

Lapointe:

- closest with Dykstra and Chouinard because despite them being a defined duo for quite a few seasons during LP's first season (the 20-21 season) he was flipped between the two of them often esp in early exhibition matches so he could get some practice and training in w Ottawas best dmen

- LP and Chouinard exclusively talk to eachother in french on and off the ice, they bitch, share recipies, tell stories whole nine yards,

- LP is Chouinards main babysitter, whenever he and selena want a night out they call in Lapointe and because of that their oldest now knows a truly ridiculous amount of baking recipied and always begs to make brownies and their middle child has a large pokemon card collection going and she also wants to learn boxing

- Dykstra and Lapointe bicker about music all the time, and LP is always accusing him of line dancing instead of watching the puck

- when LP turned 21 during the 20-21 season the next time they were in Dallas Dykstra took him to a country bar and now theres a video of a near blackout Lapointe falling off a mechanical bull before it could even start

- Dykstra is from Utah, was drafted to Las Vegas but traded to Ottawa 3 seasons in

- Chouinard is french and went undrafted but after an insane performance in worlds at 21 got signed w Ottawa and has been a staple in the defence since

- Lapointe is besties with the WAGs he will sit and hold court with them and discuss recipies (Cassie made him a custom recipie book she called "Let's Dine with the Centaurs" and it was full of WAG and family recipies she'd collected over the years)(it wad hand written)(he cried happy tears)

- he also gets along great with Bood but they’re currently jokingly competing over who can bring the better dish to the potluck, LP pulled ahead for a bit but Bood is not going down without a fight

Holmberg:

- as Wyatt's backup goalie they get eachothers weirdness in a way that is concerning to the general public, given they both go to training and have to deal w getting shot on by Ilya and Shane they need to be crazy and they are, people have looked over during practice and seen the two of them just sat in net playing slapsies

- my Wyatt is mixed Brazillian and his fav super is spidey and as such he wears spiderman themed skins under his gear, he also has batman ones but swears they're cursed

- holmberg really, really loves music and spends his free time playing the drums, the only vet to know this hobby is wyatt who supplies him with new sticks and sound proofing material

- Wyatt and Holmberg go on hikes together all the time, they'll just disspear for hours on a random day and the only sign they're alive is just a picture of a random creek on Holmberg’s story

- Holmberg and Wyatt have dueted "am i a man or a muppet" together at team karaoke. They got far too into it

- Holmberg has beef with the centaurs mascot, they once got into a competition of who was better at gymnastics (mascot did a backflip, holmberg did the splits, who won is still hotly contested)

- holmberg is also pretty close to the dmen but thats just because their warmup ritual involves messing w the goalie

- when shane was w the metros wyatt kept threatening holmberg w putting him in net against them,

- bergy does yoga in his free time, luca joins him occasionally and when shane joins the cens he always joins holmberg

Luca:

- he played as a winger for Boyle his rookie and sophmore season and began to look up to boyle as a confidant and uncle/older family member like figure (hes who luca confides in about the expectations as the "star rookie" and how stressed he is)

- boyle is an irish american from new york who moved to vancouver as a tween and so he has the craziest fucking accent, hes also a ginger

- boyle was the first vet to know about Luca and Young, he is long suffering. He also keeps getting tackled by Luca whenever one of them scores

- boyle was the one who remembered to grab Luca’s first goal puck

- Luca has nailed Boyle in the face with a snowball and he will do it again

- Luca hero worships tf out of Ilya, like he tries to keep it on the downlow but his drunken admission about the poster means everyone knows

- during the dev camp that got luca onto the centaurs team Ilya kept visitng the rink to keep an eye on him because he was a promising prospect, Luca was not chill abt this but then again none of the prospects were because ilya fucking rozanov is watching them all practice like they're ants in a tank

- when luca mentions hes gay ilya says "oh i already knew"

- ilya and luca commonly commiserate how much they miss european clubs + music (and also how much free pouring goes on in the afformentioned clubs)

- luca drew anya for ilya once and the next time he visited Ilya's place it was stuck on the fridge w a magnet

- luca admires ilya so much he kinda internalised a desire for a rivalry like shane and ilyas because he wants to be pushed to play better like they were

- the wags all love luca because he accidentally interupted wine night to ask about something and rhen stayed on the phone to gossip w them for 3 hours (he sends whoevers hosting the night a wine basket for it) (he uses this as an in to get chirp material)

- harris loves putting the mic on luca because he actually internalised the media training (he refuses to translate what is muttered in swiss german for the sake of his own sanity) he also just loves luca because luca draws graphics for his social posts all the time without being asked

Young:

- team ragebaiter

- kept insisting to wyatt that the dcu was better than the mcu just to annoy him despite actually preferring the mcu

- lowkey did not like troy when he was first traded to ottawa, he'd heard all the rumours around what troy was like and immediately said "bad fucking vibes man"

- played a scrimmage with troy and realised he actually quite likes playing with him, their sense of humours align quite well

- chirped troy once and got chirped back just as hard and decided 'maybe i should give this guy a chance' and begins practicing with him

- played on the 3rd line w troy when he was dropped to that one and luca was brought up to 1st, barrett teaches him how to be more physical in his playstyle

- young clocks troys crush on harris and gossips about it w luca

- troy is who young choses to come out to and asks for advice abt moving into the relationship phase

- when shane joins the team young is hardcore freaking out abt it but in an excited way (he's crushing on shane. Hard)

- young pokes fun at shane and says its his rookie year all the time during the 21-22 season and shane responds by training the ever loving hell out of him

- young lowkey begins taking after shane when it comes to the performance diet and shane does his best to help him keep it healthy mentally

- young admits to feeling inferior to the rest of his line given its Luca Haas and The Shane Hollander and they discuss ways to boost his confidence and his play making

- young gets shane into scrapbooking

General cens hcs:

- the only version of hazing the centaurs have is a knock off version of hot wings where a new player has to go through eating boods cooking as it gets spicier and spicier whilst answering questions until they tap out, shane is the only player to ever get through it fully

- on the topic of their discount hot wings shane laughed so hard he cried when he was shown pictures of ilya dying on the floor from spice overload

- the rookies constantly have sleepovers on the road, Boyle once posted a picture to his story of all four of them layed across eachother like jenga peices

- if they're ever at the pool together Ilya will pick up the rookies and throw them in the deep end

- troy and ilya are the worlds deadliest water chicken duo

- they've played lazer tag together many a times and shane once sniped a centaur who was on an opposing team and they screamed like they had actually just been shot

- for his birthday wyatt made everyone dress up as mario characters and they went go-karting
