Day 84
F-15A-74-0100-AK-21TFW-43TFS by Michel Klaveren
An F-15A Eagle in a vertical climb over the White Sands Missile Range at Holloman Air Force Base. Two AIM-9 missiles are mounted on each wing and two AIM-7 Sparrow missiles are on each side of the fuselage. The aircraft is assigned to the 49th Tactical Fighter Wing. 1980.
The image I took and decided to use as my header photo. The 'Lest we forget' memorial at RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk in the United Kingdom. Features an F-4 Phantom (modified to look like an F-4D, was originally a RF-4 from RAF Alconbury) an F-15A (from a stateside base made to look like a F-15C) and finally my favorite, and F-111 (originally an F-111E from RAF Upper Heyford, painted like a F-111F which had served at Lakenheath).
Despite being born at a USAF base in the U.K, I was too young to remember RAF Upper Heyford, so Lakenheath has some of my earliest memories of the U.K, and on top of that, it's an all round great base with great Fighter Wing there, the 48th. It was also my dads final base before he retired after 21 years.
